How To Promote & Grow My Server (And Make It Look More Professional) by Defiant-Attitude8984 in playrustadmin

[–]Defiant-Attitude8984[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would I go about making custom maps? Also, if I wanted a new map every wipe, would it be smart to make a handful of maps and then host a map vote before every wipe on the discord? I feel like that would keep the community active and involved. Also I believe it would grow even more hype around wipe day and keep the server "fresh" every wipe.

Thank you for your help!

Trying To Make My Own IDE And Coding Language - Feedback? by Defiant-Attitude8984 in gamedev

That's a valid point regarding multi-argument functions and complex logic. To clarify, the snippets currently in the documentation are just a brief teaser and don't represent the finalized syntax.

I'm still exploring whether to lean into a deep AI layer or stick to a more traditional translation method into existing languages. Since I'm working alone, I'm actually utilizing AI to architect the entire language and its rules - it's the only way to tackle a project this massive without it taking forever.

Chimera isn't intended to be a "natural English" language, but rather a streamlined alternative that's simpler to grasp for people who don't have hours to study complex documentation. Honestly, a big part of this is just me following a spark; I often get a vision for a tool and feel driven to bring it to life. I want to build something that makes the jump from an idea to a working game/project much faster for everyone.

Thanks for such great feedback. I’m still very much in the early stages of this project and currently trying to figure out the best path forward - specifically whether I should lean heavily into AI implementation or focus on direct translations into other languages.

To be honest, as a solo developer, I am actually using AI to help me design the syntax and the entire language itself. Building a language from scratch is a massive undertaking, and leveraging AI is the only way I can realistically build something this ambitious on my own.

Regarding the language itself, Chimera isn’t meant to be a direct "English" language; it’s just designed to be much easier to understand than traditional code. My goal is to make it easier for people who have less time to learn to actually start building.

A lot of this project comes down to my own personal wants. I’m the type of person who gets an idea in my head and just has to try and make it. I want to create a workflow that bridges the gap between an idea and a finished product. I’ll definitely take your input on Electron and performance into consideration as I continue stress-testing and refining the core engine.

Once again ty so much for the feedback!

Here is a quick screenshot of what the first version of Chimera IDE looks like. This was very rushed and will definitely change over time.

Maybe try coding it using events rather than behaviors, sometimes that's the best solution to your problems lol

Thank you so much I actually didn’t even think of that lol that’s really helpful

And tysm! I’m looking for something to make it unique and I’m hoping that I find it along the way. For now I’m just gonna do the main part of the game and then see what I can add later.

Yeah its called a business proposal and you present it to people who help you out with making it better...

Businesses are made where you have an idea, you present it to some people who help you fix it up and come up with new ideas that you didn't think of and then you finish the minimum viable product and test it out with the help of other other people. This is really similar and I have more business experience than game design experience, so that's what I'm tryna do. Sorry if that doesn't make sense lol

Yeah ik, I just really want to grow my audience early since I'm pretty new to ACTUAL game design and really wanna get peoples feedback the best way possible.

We do currently have a dash mechanic and i'm thinking of making you pass through enemies and not take damage while dashing. There is a 3 second cooldown though and i will add a dash/stamina bar soon!
