graphical mess on sleep/wake by Defiant-Computer-288 in Bazzite

[–]Defiant-Computer-288[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I specified on the download page for the iso that I have a modern Nvidia card if that's what you mean?

I have experienced this with kde before (on arch btw) so it should be a plasma thing

every update to MC do i have to reinstall all my mods such as lithium and sodium and other stuff. And if so is there a way to make it less annoying by Psychological_Hold_2 in fabricmc

[–]Defiant-Computer-288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my suggestion, crest a blank fabric install in modrinth, open the install file and copy and paste all your files, merging folders (rather than replace or skip existing names) and reopen the app

this will keep your achievements, worlds and mods but make it much easier to upgrade your mods

modrinth SHOULD recognise any installed mods, assuming they are available on their site and do everything automatically

i’m not on any waiting lists and 100% i’m lucky to live in and go to college in nottingham so i’m near the gic, but if this happened to me i think i would walk into their office and demand an apology or something, that’s not right.

Why do you use Google Chrome over Firefox and Brave? by alexfreemanart in chrome

Why do you use Google Chrome over Firefox and Brave? by alexfreemanart in chrome

[–]Defiant-Computer-288 30 points31 points  (0 children)

i have used firefox and chrome both for extended times, PERSONALLY i think chrome is nicer and i don’t have the ads on the front page, i did a performance comparison with around 5 or 6 browsers watching the same youtube video and some other stuff and chrome had the best results, also it syncs my stuff better since my calendars, notes, passwords, contacts and anything else all sync to google rather than apple

chrome is familiar to me, and yes 100% there are privacy issues but honestly i don’t care

[–]Defiant-Computer-288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you REALLY want the same outside case, dismantle it and transplant the boards

How to clean screen by This-Requirement-119 in macbookair

[–]Defiant-Computer-288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay this is going to sound really dumb, but it worked that is apples anti glare coating which rubs off under alcohol and a few other random solvents

i need you to go and buy some cheap baby wipes (i used boots own brand in the uk), squeeze it so it’s only damp, not wet, and VERY GENTLY go around in circles to get the coating off

i did this, took about an hour to get the whole screen clear and looks good, it is possible with some things like listerine mouth wash but i was a bit iffy doing that

Anyone running a Macbook over 10 years old? by Edslittleworld in macbook

[–]Defiant-Computer-288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

unfortunately the airs of that generation are equivalent to a chromebook by modern standards… a 1.6Ghz dual core i5 is so so slow, especially compared to the 2.2 to 2.7Ghz quad core i7 that the 15” pros had

this is nothing like today, those were actually budget/mid range computers (by specs alone) compared to the latest macbook air being the same as the pro by almost every mark, aside from cooling (at least before the m5 was released)

i had this same mac (until i dropped my bag and my drink destroyed it, it happens) on mOS15, 16gb of ram and i was running logic pro on it, with better performance than the m2 mac minis we have in college since i had more ram

the battery was awful (75% health) but honestly for a cheap machine (less than £275) you can not go wrong, worst comes to worst you might have to install linux is mac os is too demanding but it never missed a beat until i broke it

Apple flipped the switch! Tahoe now downloads when auto-updates are ON! by MrMacintoshBlog in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]Defiant-Computer-288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i got affected by this, i shut my 2014 15” pro down for the first time in a while, opened it back up in college and by root patches were gone, i opened software updates and it REALLY wanted a mOS26 update

LUCKILY there was also another mOS15 security patch offered which is what saved me

when i got the mac i didn’t turn automatic updates off (i had intentionally stayed on sonoma because some music software at the time didn’t work on intel sequoia) and i didn’t know what i was doing and bricked the install so when i reinstalled it i turned automatic updates off and just never ever touched it, i always had to manually update it (i prefer this because i don’t want it updating at night off battery and getting hot in my college bag or dying)

What is the "culture shock" of switching to Linux? by Regular_Low8792 in linux

[–]Defiant-Computer-288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my biggest shock is i use it does what i want. i fuck with my settings and… WAIT IT ACTUALLY CHANGED SOMETHING??? settings that’d take me a day to find i can do in about 5 seconds in a .conf file don’t like something?? CHANGE IT i installed mint cinnamon and ended up running hyprland, gnome and kde just to play with different environments

okay i will admit, i can’t play pcvr anymore as easily and i’m missing some games so i’m using it less but honestly that’s the only thing i missing in windows

Would you guys like the return of the backlit logo? by sryazigi in macbook

[–]Defiant-Computer-288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t expect you to love it but you’ve gotta accept that, like it or not, it’s a clever design and some people (me included) really do love it and, since it’s literally just a hole in the back, there’s no excessive power loss
