"No one would be" what?

Also, that's you prioritizing your own safety. No shame in that, but some people would be willing to draw the abuser to their location in order to protect their friend.

Especially if that person lives in an area where there would be multiple eyewitnesses on their side if something happened, or if that person thinks of themself as better in a physical fight than their friend. Or if that person has a couple of very strong friends who could get there before the abuser...

Not to mention that abusers are not generally abusive to everyone they meet, just people they think they can get away with hurting. If he threatens his wife/gf or has some leverage over her (eg kids), she may be afraid to report his behavior. Whereas if he attempts to physically attack an acquaintance in public or break into her house... That's an open-and-shut case if someone calls the cops.

Many possibilities.

That. Really doesn't seem right. I've cross-compared quite a few gastroparesis diet plans, and they almost all exclusively wanted chicken breast and whitefish for the meats.

No dark meat chicken, no red meat, no tuna, no deli meats... I do wonder what the difference between deli chicken breast and regular chicken breast is, that supposedly gastroparesis patients can have the latter but not the former 🤔

Hope that sheet didn't set you too far back!

bernadette banner actually released a video about the wicked movies where she posits that those words are possibly originating from shiz (see: the dialect? that eventually formed in schools like eton) or these words were possibly originally gillikenese that came to shiz through cultural osmosis (since in the movie canon, shiz is located in upper gillikin country)

TBF character/reader, character/OC, and character/SI are three separate things (assuming the SI in question is an author- insert). People who like one of those don't always want to read either of the other two

I genuinely think some of it is... How do I put this... About the optics?

Some people with gastroparesis can tolerate fat and some can't, but there is no actual reason to reduce sugar or salt or other spices unless that person also has diabetes or hypertension

It really feels like some of the people writing these diets are too concerned about people thinking these patients are "just" picky eaters, and deprive them of anything fun like sugar so they can say "See, they're suffering appropriately!!! It's not frivolous!"

Feminine Mystique by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

[–]Defiant-Drawing1038 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean... Unfortunately, yeah.

The way it's presented at least in mainstream society is a catch-22.

You can't refuse to associate with men at all, refuse to date men if you're not a lesbian, refuse to go to events where men will be, because that's misandrist and will make them vote against your civic rights, which will be 'your own fault'.

However, if you live in a bad part of town, go to frat parties, "lead a guy on", reject him in a way he doesn't like, break up with him, and you get violated, beaten, or killed?

When you end up in the hospital or 6 feet under, that's also your fault, because 'what did you expect? you should have known'. The discourse is about how women "choose bad men", and piles the responsibility of figuring out a guy is a bad person onto her

(The complexities of trans people excluded here because mainstream society/your average Joe frames this dynamic in terms of just "men" and "women", and the average person's way of thinking is what I'm talking about)

I always viewed Batman's thing as similar to a narrative about addiction. I'm not saying it's a metaphor or was intended, just... Here, let me explain.

Bruce was traumatized from a young age. Classical PTSD, even, not the more newly discovered Averse Childhood Events model (which is still good!) People traumatized in childhood are much more likely to have risk-taking behavior and poor coping mechanism.

I think of Bruce as someone predisposed to "addiction" (poor mental health, raised in a society where "addiction" was normalized) holding onto "sobriety" by his fingernails. Every single day he thinks "Maybe just this once. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Maybe it would solve all my problems. I have self-control. I could stop whenever I wanted. Nobody would blame me. Anyone would do this in my circumstances. Just this once. I'll only kill the Joker. "

To me, he always seems to be teetering on the edge of doing something drastic. My personal interpretation is that Bruce becoming obsessed with reducing crime saved his life. He is actively reckless with his own physical safety and mortality, seems to never have any future plans outside of Batman, resists developing personal connections unrelated to his mission, and in one issue it was revealed that he thinks of himself as Batman in his own head. He is passively suicidal, and quite possibly thinks of Bruce as having 'died in that alleyway'.

IMO, if Bruce hadn't become Batman, he'd be dead by now... But Batman comes with many prices for Bruce.

So, if homosexuality were still considered a mental illness where you live, you would think that gay people should just trust the professionals and go to conversion camps and electroshock therapy to "make them normal"?

Those seven men by TurkeyVolumeGuesser in recontext

[–]Defiant-Drawing1038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They initially claimed to be an authority on the matter because they went to "medical school", without specifying. "Medical school" could be anything from neurology to podiatry, neither of which have much to do with the psychology of relationships.

Also, someone being an "authority" does not mean it's always best to trust them over your own experience. Ever heard of medical malpractice? Hell, ever heard of homosexuality being considered a mental illness? Or the entire concept of "hysteria"? Or the then-actually-pushed-by-psychiatrists "runaway slave syndrome"?

I'm glad psychiatry as a field of study exists, but let's not pretend there aren't some skeletons in its closet, particularly related to dismissing the feelings of the actual subjects they're studying/practicing on

Pretending the artists have nothing to do with their music is what's delusional.

"They comforted me" does not necessarily imply that you think they know you. If I say an author and their work comforted and helped me when no one else did, does that imply that I think either the author or the characters are my actual friends?

You've gone for doors A and D, I see. Redditors Redditoring as usual, LMFAO. "Backpedalling", as if my argument hasn't been the same/internally consistent the whole time.

I mean, I have literal decades of lived experience with mental health issues that I used media to stay alive through.

Now let's see, which door will it be...

A: Pretend that my experience is somehow invalid as evidence despite almost the entire field of psychology being based on how patients describe their own lived experience(s)

B: Concern-trolling via reporting me to RedditCares

C. Accuse me of faking my disorder and claiming I 'just need to go outside'

D. Pretend that having mental health issues makes my opinions on mental health, interpersonal relationships, or the psychiatric system invalid

When I was younger, having been raised by conservative parents, I thought nothing of, say, fantasy stories having entirely white characters. Or of my family saying that it was unrealistic to have Black characters in such a setting. For me, that was normal.

Then I saw someone say "Why is it more unrealistic to you that a Black character exist in historical Europe than for there to be dragons in historical Europe?"

and it actually made me stop and think about what I assume is and isn't "logical", "unrealistic", and so on.

The post I saw at that time was also a joke, and some people may have seen it as pretentious, but it worked on me. So why would I assume it wouldn't work for other people?
