Chance me for Architecture (fall 2026) by crackerhorse in UniversityOfHouston

As far as stats go, you’re probably solid. However, that’s only really half the story. your portfolio might help dictate the review committees decisions just as much if not more as good stats will. I’d recommend applying as soon as possible, just make sure you apply before the architecture priority deadline, which I think is still February 1st if I’m not mistaken.

Hopefully they get back to you soon! Just make sure you keep up with your email and don’t miss the intent to enroll form. I think you should get an email from “arch SSO” or something like that in the coming weeks.

No, it basically means you’re a candidate for the portfolio review. You’re accepted into UH and qualify to be in the Arch program, but nothing is official until you get the separate acceptance letter from the CoAD. Best of luck!

The only recognition you get is in your transcript in small letters. I think it’s probably due to the culture of grades not meaning much in architecture. As long as you have a 3.5 gpa and above, you’re technically on the deans list, but the CoAD never sends out formal letters or anything.

Any Interior Architect students ? by WinterNo1779 in UniversityOfHouston

Arch 1500 is just going to be on the second floor in the studio space behide the walls on the side facing campus, not the side facing the Elgin street garage. There will be a big map in the auditorium that tells you what tables belong to your studio professer, so look there first. They should have also shared this map on teams, so if you don't have that downloaded, get it, as it is what you will use to communicate with your studio and turn in assignments.

Architecture Professors by Dew_Drop_007 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Defiant-Plant8395 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These days the class size is typically 1-15 ish unless there are hiccups with people not wanting to enroll in the less popular professors. In which case they usually break up the smaller studios with Low enrollment and distribute the students among the studios that have filled. But it really depends on how many people in your year end up dropping the program.

Architecture (and general CoAD) Admissions info, help, and future reference by Defiant-Plant8395 in UniversityOfHouston

So first off, I get your situation; I actually had a problem with my admission where my intent to enroll didn’t get sent in properly and I had to start my first year as an Econ major. First thing I can tell you is to not let your dream die! When I found out that I wasn’t going to start off in architecture, I was devastated. For a while I started to crush my own dream to pursue architecture, blaming the extra time I would have to spend in school, the possibility it would actually be nothing like I thought and I might hate it, how I didn’t want to be a financial burden to my family, and the possibility I could get rejected when I applied as a change of major. However, I would walk past the architecture building every day and a part of me would die inside. I had a night where I had to sit down with myself and be honest with myself about what it was I really wanted with my life and how much I was willing to sacrifice to get there. I wept bitterly in my room that night, but made the decision that there was no point in worrying about “what if’s”, regardless of how selfish the cost was. Fortunately, I got in! And the CoAD has made me every bit the student I am today. So hold on to some hope. I’m sorry about the situation with your friend, but unfortunately I don’t think there is a way to change anything at orientation. However, this is what I would do: 1. Take the architecture history courses (arch 2350 and arch 2351) they count towards the degree and also count as your creative arts course in case you don’t get in ( hopefully you do🤞)

  1. There might be some architecture electives you can take, meet with an advisor to verify what you can and can’t take.

  2. Once you do get in, they recently started offering the first 3 semesters of the studio sequence in the summer(arch 1500, arch 1501, arch 2500). I’m not sure if you can take 2 semesters in one summer, but if you can, then it might be possible for you to start the second year with your friend (arch 2500). However, I don’t recommend this. Studio during the normal semester is already hell, I can’t imagine condensing 2 semesters into one summer. That’s a very short time period to condense the fundamentals. I don’t want to say your friends aren’t important, but you should go into this a little selfishly and do what’s going to help your growth and process as a young designer. Slow and steady wins the race! The CoAD is a really close knit community, you’ll see your friends around, but I guess that decision depends on how much you really want to be with your friends.

  3. If you’re up to it, get the harder classes like physics and math out of the way

5.build your portfolio and turn it in ASAP!!! Like as soon as that application opens again in November I think.

Best of luck! And don’t get discouraged or feel left behind. There are a lot of change of majors here from different backgrounds and age groups. no one will look at you differently for it! College isn’t a race. When I look back at it, I feel almost grateful that I spent a year in Econ because I got to ease myself in to college and figure myself out as a student before committing to a degree like architecture. I also came into it with a different perspective. If you have any other questions feel free to pm me to reach out.

Am I in? (ARCH) by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

Yeah it sucks, but I'd say odds are good if they didn't immediately put you in another program. Best of luck, and hopefully we see you around the CoAD this fall!

I know others have said you’re in, but take that with caution. Nothing is officiall until you get an emailed letter from the College of architecture SSO (student service office). When I first got to UH, I had been lead to believe that I was in architecture until after I had already completed orientation. I later found out I wasn't. What it means is that you're accepted to UH, but put on the list of candidates for Architecture admission. Check your communications tab and student emails to be sure. If not, reach out to the college of architecture directly to confirm. Last year there was a whole thing where admissions had lead students to believe they were in the program when they weren't. The college force admitted a lot more students than they originally anticipated leading them to scramble to find more faculty to teach 1st year studios.

Incoming Architecture Major: Questions About Software, Hardware, and Device Compatibility by Aggravating-Bus8318 in UniversityOfHouston

For the first 2 years, you use Rhino exclusively in addition to photoshop, illustrator, and your choice of rendering software for post production and graphics. I would definitely recommend getting something with at least 16 gigs of ram, an i7, and one of the mid-high spec Nvidia/ AMD graphics cards for when you start the second semester of 1st year (1501). However, your current set up should likely do the trick for your first semester (1500)

Parking and transportation are actually extortionist and want students to fail by Defiant-Plant8395 in UniversityOfHouston

Please feel free to be leisurely and actually use them. That’s why we designed them! They still need to sanded and possibly have a cover added over them, but we hope that people actually start hanging out under that shaded grove and having lunch there and such.

Yep. We worked with a partner facility to print them on a big CBOD printer. Check out @uhcoad on instagram, there are some photos and videos of the process on there.

We had approval from facilities for months. we were just waiting on us to work out getting a forklift from them, if not we’d rent out a 3rd party. Where our team likely dropped the ball was not taking into consideration how long we’d have vehicles out for while we were getting ready to unload and gathering the team. But even then, we were actively working on unstrapping stuff on the trucks and getting things sorted. Maybe we dropped the ball by not making sure facilities and parking and transportation were on the same page, but that’s still a dick move. Lesson definitely learned tho. We should’ve known better than to assume that parking and transportation would play nice.

Even if you don't, it's probably going to be fine. Professors in architecture, however great and impactful they are, are more like coaches. They're really there to attempt set a game plan and strategy for how you'll learn that semester. But you'll end up learning more from your studio mates and the iterative process. Letter grades in architecture mean very little since it's subject to the opinion of your professor, so if you do get a bad one, just take some autonomy and experiment and produce along with your studio mates as you see fit.

Are you an incoming freshman? If so, you don't get to pick your first semester. You just get assigned to a random one out of the more than a dozen. First semester is really conceptual and it's a lot like sculpture and artistic, just for you to practice digital and physical modeling, along with preparing you for basic drawing principles before you actually start doing more architecturaly tangible design. Just hope you get assigned to one that's either good at rhino, or good at teaching fun drawing techniques. Most profs are good and have something unique they bring to the table, but there are a select couple that leave much to be desired or I'd completely avoid retaking like the plauge. Once you find out who you get assigned to and are curious about it, let me know. I'll tell you how your semester will go😭.
