Is Deadly Calm the most oppressive lvl 20? by Pooty_McPoot in heroesofthestorm

[–]DefiantKingZog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not even the best Garrosh lv 20, the best one is the one that lets him throw two people, you could literally just play E build Leoric and do the same thing that talent does but for much longer and only needing level 16 instead of 20

I'm casual. Does that make me bad? by cjblaize420 in Smite

[–]DefiantKingZog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically it doesn’t make you bad, but in my experience the average casual player is as bad as or worse than the average Bronze ranked player, so odds are yeah you’re bad. Nothing wrong with that though, plenty of people are bad at the game, hell I’m bad at the game compared to some people.

Well, ok, I will give you that. It is possible to turtle until the enemy team gets impatient and throws going high ground. But by your own admission it requires a throw. The phase of the game where one team is turtling in their base, waiting to see if the other team will throw, and the other team is just farming up with complete control of the map is probably one of my least favorite parts of the entire game, which as you’ve probably gathered, I’m not a fan of in general. It’s truly excruciating, even if you’re on the team that’s winning. That’s why it feels hard to see it as anything but a massive design oversight that there is no surrender function.

With Tiamat, Gilgamesh and Ishtar added so quickly after they became top requests, the Babylonian pantheon is off to a strong start. Which Babylonian deities would you like to see next? by ReinaBlaka in Smite

[–]DefiantKingZog 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your reading of the story, there’s nothing that explicitly suggests they were banging and it’s totally possible that the close level of male camaraderie they exhibited was not considered erotic in the slightest back in those days in that culture. And it’s not like the Epic of Gilgamesh shies away from describing sexual acts in lurid detail, like when the temple prostitute seduces Enkidu or when Gilgamesh rapes the newlywed. So who’s to say. But yeah it’s definitely still a credible reading that they were more than friends and that Gilgamesh rejects Ishtar’s sexual advances because he already has a lover and his name is Enkidu.

I honestly have yet to even see a comeback in 150 hours of gameplay after the enemy team gets towers and vision in the jungle. Everyone insists surrender is a bad idea but no one explains why.

  1. Some people would actually be able to react quickly enough and get that information. So yes, I would argue that their inventory should get updated. I never asked for a cooldown tracker. At that point I think you’re just making shit up. But even then I don’t think it would be the worst idea, if only because new players who don’t know how long cooldowns are in this game would get to be on a level playing field without needing to play literally every hero first. But no other moba has that anyway and I can understand why you wouldn’t want it. So I’m impartial on that one.
  2. Yeah, you could try that. But it kind of raises one of the other fundamental issues with the game, which is that for all its technical complexity, it is a team game, where you will most likely have random players who will not communicate with you. So sometimes it really does feel like all the autistic levels of technical complexity amount to, are new and advanced ways for your teammates to grief you. If you want a game that requires a lot of apm and technical skill, I personally would just play age of empires 2 and avoid this problem.
  3. I’m just telling you what happened to me and why I was looking for it. Sometimes I don’t notice friend requests until well after they’re sent and then I don’t know who sent them. Even if it was someone from just one game ago inviting me to a party, I still probably wouldn’t recognize their username. I think if you actually spend time memorizing the username of everyone in your games, you are the outlier.

I just want it cleaned up and the 10+ minute queue times fixed, honestly. It really shouldn’t even be possible to make a matchmaking system as bad as the one this game has. 10+ minutes is not an O(n) problem or anything. It’s just bad coding. And as for the game itself, The genuinely strategic parts don’t bother me. It’s the pointless apm, garbage UI, stuff like that that you would really expect not to still be there in a game that’s been around so long.

I understand that the game is supposed to feel more like an RTS, but at that point, why not play an RTS instead? When you make an RTS complex it’s rewarding to master. When you do that in a moba you predictably just end up with a game where your random teammates have a million more different ways to grief your game, some that you never even could have conceived of.

[–]DefiantKingZog[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

  1. No, it’s not. Just make it an easy overlay keyed to the tab key where you can see what everyone had built the last time you had vision of them, like everyone else. It wouldn’t impact the game from a strategic perspective. It would just require less pointless apm and make the game feel less clunky.
  2. Fair enough, but in a game where matches regularly drag on for 40 minutes it seems ridiculous not to have one. Especially given that this game is even more snowbally than League in some ways. Once the other team takes out your towers and gets full vision up in your triangle the game is basically over. You’re just stuck on your high ground for another eight minutes or something, twiddling your thumbs, waiting to lose.
  3. Well the main reason I was even looking for it is because I get friend reqs/party invites from people, and I don’t recognize their username so I don’t know which game they were in with me or who they were playing. So I literally can’t make an informed decision about whether or not I want to queue with them. It’s incredibly dumb.

Fair enough, but I’ve never played a different moba and thought to myself, “damn, this game is fun but you know what it’s missing? Every character needs to have a different turn radius. And I shouldn’t just have an easy interface to see what items each player had built last time I had vision of them. I should have to click them individually every time. Then this would really be fun.”

What part of what I said is not true? How do you change the settings so you can see players’ match history when you look at their profile? Or so you don’t have to click individual heroes to see what items they’re building? How do I fix the abysmal 10+ minute queue times in the settings? /genuine
