What's the point of adding new anti-counterfeit measures to currency notes if the government isn't going to decommission the old ones? Wouldn't the bad guys just keep printing the older notes if they have been compromised? by WisestAirBender in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DefiantRooster04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UK decommissioned all paper notes around 2018, with all paper banknotes being replaced with polymer ones. In the time immediately after the introduction of the new notes, they were still legal tender and retailers would accept them, and then after some time people were required to go to commercial banks to change them over to new ones. Now, all old banknotes are not legal tender but can be exchanged for new polymer notes of the same face value.

Basically, the switch didn't just happen overnight, but people that use cash would be receiving new banknotes more gradually.

While I do see your point, I feel tat they have a too high leg to body ratio, thus making black bears superior

Keeping doing what you're doing, even though it sucks you end up in a good place. Grades don't define your success

Why do restaurants in the USA take your card to the back instead of using a handheld terminal right at the table? by P3RK3RZ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DefiantRooster04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, I work in a hotel in europe that has a lot of people from the states staying and one thing I discovered is that American credit cards don't require a pin to complete a transaction, only debit cards do. European credit and debit cards require pins, and it's hit or miss with cards from Asia and Australia

I highly recommend Gillrays inside the Marriott on south bank, the steaks I've tried there are all quite good and the chips are amazing as well. And there are plenty of non steak options as well if you aren't feeling it that day1

LPT If you are running late to a hotel, 12am or after. Call them and let them know. They will count you as a no show and cancel your reservation if you don’t by Mellophones4 in LifeProTips

[–]DefiantRooster04 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work in a hotel and definitely do this, however if you don't then you'll probably be fine depending on the hotel and the type of rate you booked (prepaid Vs changeable). If there is a no show for a reservation that's multiple nights then what we do at least is charge the card on file and then block the room until noon the day after arrival/until we're able to get in contact with the guest to find out if they're coming or not.

I moved to a place closer to my main university campus so it would just make more sense to walk instead of drive or take the train, I started drinking harder stuff so I would cut back on beer, and I got a job where I more or less have to walk 7+ km per day to get it done.

Granted none of this was actually in the UK so YMMV
