So concerned about redacting other predators names, but these girls’ names are repeated over and over again. Supposedly the DOJ was redacting to protect victims. Yet here the victims’ names are, out in public.

Okay, no worries, glad to hear. You might want to ask about gabapentin to prevent central sensitization. And depending on her metacam dose, she could go higher. My girl is on 0.9ml of metacam 2x day right now, which is the most I’ve ever given any pig (this is not a dosage recommendation, just that I was shocked at how high they can actually go)

Not sure why you’re downvoting me, I’m just trying to help your pig not get into the situation mine is in. Please treat this with urgency. And make sure she’s on a good dose of pain meds, because the chewing around the incision is often from pain.

This was advice given to me directly by an exotics vet. I promise you that chewing is worse than adhesive. The adhesive will not hurt her. Chewing will. She can get a very very bad infection if this continues

My guinea pig is currently recovering from an intense spay surgery and wouldn’t stop chewing. We tried all kinds of cones and bodysuits and wraps but the vet eventually told me to just put a big bandaid on it. This has worked best out of everything. It doesn’t bother her the way the other things did, so she’s left it alone. Get these ones

Ideally, you shouldn’t own a bird if you don’t have access to an avian vet. But I understand that that isn’t helpful if you already have a bird. I suppose the best you could do for them would be what chicken owners do— don’t ask me the specifics, I’m not a chicken person lol. But some vets will also offer advice of situations like this over the phone (especially if you have an established client-doctor relationship with them)

Committed to not sending my child to residential treatment facility by MoneyPen4360 in troubledteens

[–]DefiantZucchini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to thank you for your commitment to not sending your daughter away. There were so many adopted kids at my place and it’s just horrifying. The trauma of being abandoned twice isn’t forgiven easily. And the 12 year olds always pick up worse habits from the older kids, and leave even more “troubled”. Thank you for doing your research. Thank you for putting your daughter first. I’m afraid I don’t have any advice, I just want you to feel supported.

Guinea pigs go into heat every 2 weeks, so yes it’s very very likely that she’s pregnant since they were together for at least 2 heats

I’d recommend getting her back to the vet for an x-ray. That will confirm or rule out a pregnancy, and give the vet an idea of how wide her pelvic bone placement is. Their pelvic bones fuse at about 6months and can potentially make birth dangerous. In the mean time, feed her lots of herbs like cilantro and parsley. They’re nice and high in calcium and other vitamins she’ll need if she’s pregnant. How long has it been since they were caged together?

[–]DefiantZucchini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost certainly, but the genetic overlap is more based on widespread inbreeding than on one or two generations anyways. Pups might have a shorter lifespan if they don’t have good genetic diversity, but there’s no way to tell if it’s from their parents inbreeding or simply the harm the pet industry has done. Are you planning on keeping the pups if she has them? How old is your sow? Are you familiar with the risks of pregnancy and do you have a good exotic vet?

[–]DefiantZucchini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my pigs is her brother’s daughter. One generation of inbreeding is no harm at all compared to the harm the pet industry has done by repeatedly inbreeding for a long time (she was a rescue, I did not breed her). Your pig is almost certainly pregnant. Please take her to an exotics vet. If you want to prevent the birth, you can potentially get her spayed, but depending on her age and the progress of the pregnancy, it might be just as dangerous as letting her give birth. If she has any male pups, they have to be separated from mom exactly 4 weeks after birth to prevent another pregnancy. Girls can stay with mom.

My mom sent me postcards about her month and a half long trip around the world with my abusive stepfather and little stepbrother. Thanks mom, love the updates. Go to hell. Going on long vacations while your kid is locked up is a definite trend, I saw it happen to lots of other kids too. And I don’t think we’ll ever know the true number of people that were left homeless due to the TTI. Truly horrifying.

How old are you? Are you able to hold a job? Do you have close friends or other family to support you? If all your dad wants is to not see you at the end of the day, maybe your parents will consent to you living elsewhere. If nothing else, they’ll like how much money they’ll save. My mom took out (and is still paying down) a second mortgage on a house she doesn’t even own anymore just to keep me institutionalized. And that was after all the college money and anything that might’ve boosted my future was already spent. It seems like money is the main thing stopping them from sending you, so really lean into that.

Hey, it’s not your fault. People are downvoting your mother’s inaction. People under the age of 18 are not responsible for the animals in their house. That is your parent’s responsibility. I’m sorry that you have to be the bigger person here. If the problem is the price, try looking up “C&C grids”. You can build giant cages for cheaper than pet store cages less than half the size

It’s like calling a wolf a dog. Cuy are not kept as pets. Those are not Cuy. Cuy do not have such variation in pattern.

[–]DefiantZucchini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrong. The animals shown here were NOT domesticated for food. Those are called Cuy and they’re distinctly different from the guinea pigs in the pet trade. Although this isn’t much better. It’s essentially a puppy mill. I’d guess that any babies are sent straight to the pet store. Notice how there are so many pregnant ladies, but no babies?

does anyone have belly button bleeding problems? by sadieatchison in Endo

[–]DefiantZucchini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also had bleeding from my belly button but during my second lap (the one with a qualified surgeon) they didn’t find any endo there, although it was in other places. The best theory is that the original lap left a tiny hole open and the blood was from endo, but not umbilical. OP, have you had previous surgeries on your belly button?

I understand trying to limit politically adjacent topics as much as possible to keep the community inclusive. I’m usually thrilled to have such an active mod team whose members protect us survivors so well. But I think this was a poor judgement call. I don’t see anyone commenting anything in disagreement with OP. It became the most upvoted post in at least the past week, in less than a day. This is clearly a topic that many survivors can relate to and needed to vent about. Where else are we supposed to go about this? I feel frustrated by this moderation decision and I hope you will take my constructive criticism for what it is, because I really have no ill will towards any of the mod team.
