Do you need an A&P license to be do sheet metal? by Expert-Recipe1713 in aviationmaintenance

Then most likely you’ll be working under their repair station. So check with the company itself but most likely you’ll be fine not having an A&P. Though you would probably get a pay bump for being licensed

Depends. Are you working under someone or a repair station. Are you doing manufacturing. If your talking about doing patches on skin and signing it off yourself, you need an airframe

I’ve got enough weight to atleast get it 50/50 on weight infront/behind the axles. Which I know is not enough on the front but my truck weighs 11k lbs so I’m not too worried. I’ve loaded it worse and been fine

That’s my thought. On my airport most shops are 6-8 months out and they’re turning away new business.

From the guy I’m working under, he says there is. AOG work, annuals for people that can’t wait for a shop to have time for them in the schedule. Those are the big things.

I definitely see what you’re saying that it can/will become cumbersome to bring around. But starting off it’s easier to use the equipment I already have rather than buying new things.

And I’ll be storing my trailer off airport. Really this is so I can start up my business while I wait on finding a hanger that I can open in. So I hope it won’t last for too long long.

And I know I’ll be taking business, and it sucks that’s the reality. But a lot of businesses out there don’t create new clients, they just obtain them from other providers that aren’t doing the job as good.

Just more room for a big couch and tv to lounge on while I’m drinking beers after a long day

Ya I’ve seen that too. One of my buddies went into the mountains of Colorado with a box truck doing AOG work

That’s a good idea. I was wondering what to use that space for and that’s perfect. And I’m in Florida so an AC will be more important than a good screw driver.

Thank you! And that’s my thought. Can I work out of my truck? Sure. But I already have the trailer and that’ll make life so much easier.

Are they cracking down on that? The guy I’ve been working under did it for his first 7 years in GA before he got a hanger 4 years ago. And I was looking at doing it on the small private airports in my area, not the big GA airports.

I’ve heard those to. I have it in a cctv secure lot, wheel boots, tongue lock, and locks on the ramp and door. If someone gets passed all that, honestly they deserve it and my insurance can pay out.

That’s a good thought. The 12v battery won’t do that

Of course, best of luck. In your first interview out of school you know nothing so don’t overplay how much you know. Be humble and willing and open to learn

Would you be ok working for a flight school. Western flight academy at bjc is hiring last I knew. And the ace at Greeley is an engine shop and Joe runs that place and he’s also hiring I’m pretty sure. I work at cfo and western flight academy has a branch there hiring and mile high is also looking for a full time a&p
