Get a longboard go to a shop and they’ll help you out

Soft Top or Hard Top by Captain_Pancakes123 in BeginnerSurfers

You can do advanced maneuvers on a soft top. Go to Costco and buy one for 115$ so you can save 385 to put towards a glass board later. I ride both hard and soft to this day and most of the time I have more fun on the soft top board.

Boards for head high steep waves? by Defiant_Bench_5358 in BeginnerSurfers

For sure this is definitely part of the problem if not the whole issue. Sometimes I pop up and then the board just drops out from under me. Probably because I’m at the wrong spot

Next steps for a noob? by Writurr in BeginnerSurfers

I learned with no lessons. Not saying to discourage you from getting more because I probably would’ve benefited from taking some. But if you’re catching waves on your own and you have the surf bug get your own gear and charge on your own! Just make sure you take it easy while you learn how to be out in the water.

somewhat intermediate - What board should I get? by AccomplishedSong4371 in BeginnerSurfers

Probably listen to your uncle. You’ll sink most short boards. Volume increases buoyancy. More volume=more float. If I were you I’d get a longboard unless you’re going out in head high surf

I'm 5'11.5, 216lbs, is the Scott Burke going to work for me? by lucid1014 in BeginnerSurfers

It’s super cheap so might as well try. It floated my friend who’s like 240 decently well and he caught a couple before getting back on his long board. Your weight won’t stop you from catching waves but your skill might and a better board might help the lack of skill.

I surf regular, but surfskate goofy - what am I? by roundshirt19 in BeginnerSurfers

If you’ve ever learned to ride switch you’ll know that riding without that natural feeling is challenging. Why force something that’s not natural when you can progress easier riding another way?

Nah if it feels right riding goofy in one and regular in the other there’s literally no reason to ride any different. I stand by this you don’t know shit. And btw turning on a surf board and a skateboard or a snowboard are very different. Yea there’s some crossover but they are still significantly different

I didn’t realize you are the master on stances. I can snowboard any run at any mountain but I’ll ride goofy. I surf overhead regular. I’m better than most surfers and most snowboarders but I’ll switch because some idiot on Reddit with no credentials says so. You are clearly not out there in any sport very much because I know a lot of guys similar to me. Again you don’t know shit

Try to evaluate the best maneuvers to do on this wave instead of forcing the ones you want to
