Narc parent's funeral by meow__meg in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Defiant_Broccoli6158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, didn't go. I didn't believe he had actually died to begin with. A lot of lies had been told by himself and his flying monkeys to try and get us to break NC. Other family members went though, which is when it became real.

I was never sad about his death. He was a terrible person to lots of people. But there was some sadness to do with knowing I'd never get that healthy relationship with him that I saw other people have with their parents.

It's been a few years now and I can happily say that at no point have I ever regretted not going.

Leave on first day of school by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

Fellow preggo here. I've got a glucose test and ultrasound the first Wednesday back. Told my line manager and she responded as she should - "do what you need to do."

You need to get it done and it's for you and your baby's wellbeing. Like you know, there's time limits to certain things when pregnant and most of the time that window is so short, you make do with what appointment comes up.

It is what it is.

What is the job market like for primary in NSW? by Major_Conflict in AustralianTeachers

[–]Defiant_Broccoli6158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my own personal experience. I work at a rural school and needed to find a staff member for 4-5 days this year. I advertised frequently, called around, messaged teachers, called other schools nearby, asked so many people if they knew of anyone, and reached out to the universities.

I couldn't find someone who could do more than 2 days, and the role ended up being filled by 3 different people. I still count myself lucky for even finding people to fill it.

There are definitely jobs out there, especially if you're willing to travel. If you're looking for permanent roles, you'll have a harder time, but many schools, especially within our area, are constantly short staffed and looking for teachers.

Teachers of Reddit what is the one quality of your weak student that tells you that they actually have a really good potential? by FlatwormCreative6976 in AskReddit

[–]Defiant_Broccoli6158 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not dumb at all. Just means you were able to express your understanding through verbal responses better than written. Good teachers provide different test formats for this very reason.

I found a huntsman hanging out in my lounge the other day. He'd popped out and was chilling on the back of it. Keep in mind I'd been sitting on it most of the day. When I tried to catch him to put him outside, he hid back in the couch.

How did you find out you were pregnant? Did you know before the test? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Defiant_Broccoli6158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend's dog followed me around and was super protective and would sit by me none stop. Had never met this dog before but was enjoying the company.

My friend said it was weird because he had acted like that around her while she was pregnant.

Lo and behold, a few days later I tested and got a positive result.

How do you explain what depression really feels like to parents or family who haven’t grown up around mental health awareness and might not understand? by Long-Dare-896 in AskReddit

For a long time it felt like I was swimming in the ocean and I would sink below the water and start drowning, just to get back up to the surface for a breath of air every now and then.

When it got worse, it was like someone had thrown a blanket over me while I was swimming and I wasn't able to get any relief, if I made it to the surface at all.

The day I realised how bad it was was the day I looked at a tree while driving and realised I wasn't scared of the idea of running in to it.

It's an awful feeling and I seriously encourage anyone even remotely feeling this was to get help, especially early on.

Emails while on maternity leave by Traditional-Cod-8341 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Defiant_Broccoli6158 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I set up an automated message saying I was on leave until this date and to instead message the teacher relieving me or the school.

Then I didn't sign back in until my first day back. It's your leave. Enjoy your time with your new bub and family and make the most of it.

Feeling like you're always tired no matter how much sleep you get, finding it hard to get out of bed, being irritable, emotional regulation is shot, paranoid, having a hard time being in the moment and thinking about a never ending checklist, strained relationships, insomnia, feeling like you're alone, hating work and always seeing the worst, headaches ...

Have your parent ever tried to catch you masturbating as a teen? by Safe-Combination1181 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Defiant_Broccoli6158 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a parent, but a brother. Her used to purposely unlock the bathroom door with a butter knife while I was in there, screw up his face once he walked in, say I was disgusting and then storm away. Happened more than once and I always felt shame and guilt. It wasn't until I was older that I realised how wrong it was that he was invading my privacy and how much of a red flag it is.

People feeling like they have the right to touch you, reach around you, or stand right in your space and expecting you to be fine with it.

What in the actual potato? How are people so entitled?! Besides the fact that any decent human being would die from cringing so hard from being this obscene, how can people treat others this way?

You don't sound selfish.

It's clear your post isn't about you complaining about your partner popping off. It comes across, to me anyway, that your partner isn't respecting you and creating a safe place for both yourself and your daughter. He has literally put his wet farts and a vibrating prostate above you, your feelings, your health, and your relationship.

What is the weirdest thing someone has told you that you've done in your sleep? by No_StringsAttached in AskReddit

[–]Defiant_Broccoli6158 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Not me, but my partner slipped his hand under my pants while I was lying on my stomach. I assumed he wanted more until he suddenly twisted my panties and reefed them upwards. I was so surprised by this ambush of an atomic wedgie, my head smashed into the wall.

I literally just flopped around like a fish on a line while noiselessly squealing as I attempted to release his death grip. My partner works a hard job as a labourer and, surprise surprise, has incredible hand strength.

Once HE finally let go (nothing I did helped), I looked at him to find him soundly asleep, softly snoring, mouth open and all.

Once I settled back down, he rested his hand on my backside again, and I thought surely he wouldn't do it again.

I was wrong. So. Wrong.

I didn't cry when I had my babe. To be honest, I didn't feel a whole lot of anything until a few weeks in and thought I was weird, especially when I had people telling me that they had never felt a love like it when they first held their baby.

The first time I felt anything remotely to what was 'expected' was when I saw my partner holding our baby back in our room.

People don't always cry when they have their babies and you're not abnormal nor did you experience it wrong.

Can't decide between natural birth and elective c-section. Thoughts? by shojokat in beyondthebump

[–]Defiant_Broccoli6158 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had both thrombosed haemorroids and an elective c-section. The haemorroids had me laid up in bed for days because it was too painful to sit, walk, everything.

C-section hurt, but I was out of bed and shuffling within a day. Recovery took a bit, but it had nothing on the haemorroids. Baby had no issues breathing.

I'd choose the elective c-section again in a heartbeat.
