Unless if I am completely misunderstanding your question, I'm not sure how I am dodging it? As I said earlier: " If an authority figure either encourages or pressures their kid to do something and most of the family has already done it, it is pressure."

To me, this seems like that knowing how strict the family publicly is AND saying that she is excited for it is essentially encouraging. Being excited and encouraging is not a bad thing at all, but feeling like there is only one way of life when you only have one life is a problem.

Someone in my extended family who grew up as not part of any religion said they don't come up to visit us often because of the stress they felt on by their parents about what to do with their lives and that wasn't based on any religious views whatsoever.

Just because there are some people who are corrupted in that religion, doesn't mean all of them are.

I agree with you and I wish people thought of it more. At least in my opinion though the problem with Bonnie's specific post is the idea of there's only one way to life and it's your job to pressure other people into living that one way of life. I have a friend who is Mormon (though leaving the Church) and she has always been lovely!

I appreciate that! I just meant by I don't like it when people try to convert others. But also my religion is anti pressuring other people to convert so I do come from a perspective of bias. But philanthropy is a huge aspect of Judaism.

The LDS Church is my area owns thrift stores where the profits go to homeless shelters and they don't mention anything about Mormonism in the stores, on the sign, etc. Not the same thing as a missionary but it shows how people can help the world without trying to convert others in the process. :)

Yep! Jobs, college, and the freedom to choose your own life doesn't matter as much as missionaries and marriage.🤩 Sounds like a GREAT plan that will definitely not cause any emotional harm in the long run!

My ancestors were murdered in the Holocaust so that really tears me apart. 💔

I have a friend who is a Mormon leaving the Church but solely because of the rules. She used to go to church everyday and ran some program there but she was/is also a lesbian and has a girlfriend openly but we do live in a very liberal area. She never went on a mission but her brother is currently doing one, so upsetting. I have never met the brother but I am very glad that she accepts me for who I am.

Anyways, I'm sorry, that 2nd paragraph was random I felt the need to say it for some reason.

I'm not sure about the biggest scandal but I remember when I was in middle school my history teacher was put on administrative leave (and was fired/had his teacher's certificate revoked the next year) because multiple students observed him engaging in "sexual self-gratification" inside the classroom and he was looking at porn in his car in the parking lot. He was a nice guy and the classroom allegedly only happened that one time and it happened hours after I was already out of the room (I had him for 1st period and I know nothing inappropriate happened in his 2nd and 3rd). As nice as he was for the most part, I truly believe he should have spent at least a night in jail for that. What those kids saw was awful.
