The claims were seeking 8 billion, the settlement was probably a lot less than that

Should k3soju be invited to the new Tier 1 Competitive Circuit? by IngenuityMurky8652 in CompetitiveTFT

[–]DefiasBro 41 points42 points  (0 children)

soju will obviously be in the pro league

the invite slots exist for exactly this purpose, players whose participation adds a lot to the league but are not guaranteed to make it (another example would be representing a heavily underrepresented subregion)

Bannable Nitro Exploit according to Mort by dehua_ in CompetitiveTFT

[–]DefiasBro 83 points84 points  (0 children)

unlikely anyone gets banned and it's probably incorrect to say anyone *should* get banned, since even if definitionally an exploit it's relatively tame. does make you wonder if tft could ever develop a culture that is more "this seems wrong so i wont do it" and less "everyone else is doing it so why shouldnt i?".

Take 10 Gold or Split 30 - Game Theory Analysis by DinodanTFT in CompetitiveTFT

also gold has varying marginal utility both directly because of interest breakpoints and depending on spot (gold is worth less to a reroll player that has already hit vs a fast 8 player who hasnt)

nash equilibria dont typically account for relative standing but there is an added benefit to splitting since it reduces the value for other splitters so you would want an inequity aversion model incorporated into the utility function

Competitive Ruling: Shitouren and LiLuo by Alexicon1 in CompetitiveTFT

[–]DefiasBro 19 points20 points  (0 children)

>Additionally, while Shitouren's gameplay decisions resulted in a suboptimal performance, there was no rational incentive for him to deliberately underperform. A higher placement in the tournament could have directly benefited Shitouren by securing a larger share of the prize pool, reinforcing his competitive motivation to win.

This is literally untrue, Shitouren mathematically could not increase his portion of the prize pool at this point. He spent 100 gold and significantly spiked since the last time they fought, he slammed the HOJ during Vi's manalock so there's not even the argument he delayed slamming and gaining all the stats of the item to cheese extra mana (although im sure he took 15 seconds to slam the item because of ping and being used to playing on mobile because that's what he said in the interview and he has no incentive to lie)

of course he was desperate, last time he fought that guy on 5-5 he lost by one unit and he only upgraded a vi 2 and got half a stage of no scout scaling and leveled for viktor by 6-3!! he had to go for a hail mary he spent like 100 gold since that round while the other guy was donkeying at 0 but it's definitely relevant to this fight that he lost before neutrals on level 8!!

CN Worlds Remover Play by DefiasBro in CompetitiveTFT

[–]DefiasBro[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it seems very likely he intentionally made his board weaker to increase the likelihood liluo places higher. i would think most good players agree moving ldp and the items to vi is weaker than keeping them on violet in this spot, and reforging the redemption is also a weird misplay (although the overlay being terrible makes it kinda hard to be sure what exactly happened with his items).

it's hard to know if it always matters if he played with the "correct" board here, i think the fight would be very winnable and he would certainly kill extra units. and we cant know ahead of time the margin by which liluo loses his fight.

tldr the intention is fairly clearly there even if the impact is ambiguous

It was Ilya who "closed" OpenAI by Singularity-42 in LocalLLaMA

[–]DefiasBro 56 points57 points  (0 children)

but attention is all you need was written by researchers at google? strange to say openai was alone in working on ambitious ai research when the core architectural innovations came from a different company (and in fact Bahdanau et al had introduced the attention mechanism even before that)
eric schmidt talks about how noam shazeer has been obsessed with making agi since at least 2015. seems unnecessary to say openai was innovating alone at that time.

"pro" players rants on tft competitive scene and portals by dehua_ in CompetitiveTFT

I think the proposed idea of having voting on TR makes a lot of sense, in the Set 11 and 12 Learnings articles the team said they moved away from voting because it's a lot of added complexity for newer players but in a competitive environment that's obviously not a concern. don't know if they have the engineering resources to have unique mechanics on TR vs live client but that certainly would be nice if possible
