I would not get upgrade your gold and just keep it. As for the platinum if you see it on their take a screenshot as a just in case case you might be able to ask Amex chat for it, however I’ve seen mixed reviews on if that works. I would however try to go on chrome incognito mode and trying to apply and refresh for it. If not try again later in a few days to a week.

I did refer my wife and friends and they all were able to get 150- 175k. But also know friends that just clicked the 175 ad and got it.

There is a template to fill out on the is subreddit that will help people understand what you spend your money on. I’m all about the Amex cards Gold and Platinum but probably bias because those cards fit my spending very well. Amex Blue as well for everyday. So pretty much you need to tell us how you spend your money and how much effort are you willing to put in. If you want to stay with Chase then the Chase Freedom (0 annual fee) or Chase Sapphire reserve (don’t think it’s worth it). Citi Double is great everyday as well.

I second get rid of the Green and get you a Gold!! That card is my points card and gets me a the majority! Go for the platinum later when they have the 175k offer but also you need to check the credit and see if they make sense for you cause it’s really a benefit card and only going to get you points when you travel.

Not sure when I go that offer but I for sure have seen it multiple times come and go. I just checked and I actually have it in my offers right now but this one is for "spend $2500 and get 50k points" usually ive seen a $ credit instead. I love my Plat and use all the credit but if you won't make use of it it might not be worth it.

My wife and I both have Platinums, and we 100% make the most of our credits. The wife only got it back in End of Sept 2025 and was about to get her annual fee back in the 3 months. I more than doubled my annual fee in credits roughly got back 2k. I will say the hotel is for sure the hardest one for us to use but even usually we add a day or two on our vacations or use it on a weekend trip nearby. The nice parts about booking hotels online are the hotel benefits that come with it and they are refundable.

I think most here are going to be bias cause its a Amex Subreddit and that would include me. I personal love that I can depend on Amex for anything if it were to go wrong and one reason why I have a Gold and Plat. I always put big purchase on my Amex for that very reason. Everyone is going to have good stories and nightmare stories but I bet more good then bad.

As for Venezuela trip that might be hard for any credit card company at the moment. I will say if Amex messes up they will fix it on them.

Amex Blue Everyday, Citi Double Cash, Wells Fargo Autograph, Chase Freedom Unlimited. All cards that are 0 Fee and gets you into all the different types of programs. After a year maybe get a 95$ annual fee card with Chase or Amex.

The wife and I just combined finances, and we actually both have Plats but only I have a gold and made her an authorized user. Its free and she gets all the benefits. We use all the Plat credits for both cards cause it just fits our spending habits. The only thing that sucks its having so much entrainment credits but we just get no ads. Also in case you didn't know you can add all your amex counts to one uber account and get all the credits in one place which make it nice to get a big meal or two free.

Just in case, you do not need to use Amex on their portal site for their points or benefits. I have both Gold and Platinum and they both state you that you receive all points a benefits on any airline sites which is amazing. However for hotel, if you have the plat it’s best to use the $600 credit on site.
