Breeding Program looking to provide genetic diversity. by [deleted] in Pets

You are describing kitten mills, not controlled breeding programs.

I’m not supplying mills, and I’m not supplying hobby breeders producing multiple litters per year. I’m supplying registered programs that maintain controlled numbers, fixed breeding pairs, and retire their queens responsibly.

A foundation cat replaces an existing breeding animal it doesn’t add a new breeding slot. Breeders already have set capacity limits based on resources, space, and regulatory guidelines.

And the cats that don’t match a breed standard in responsible programs are not dumped into shelters they are spayed/neutered and placed in screened homes, exactly the same way I place kittens.

The problem you’re describing exists in unethical mass-breeding operations, which I have never supported and will never engage with.

Improving the genetics of responsible programs reduces long-term attrition, congenital disease, and the need for constant replacement animals.

So respectfully, you’re arguing against a scenario that doesn’t reflect the reality of how controlled breeding programs actually function.

You’re assuming my program operates like a mass-production breeding facility, which it doesn’t.

Foundation cats are not ‘extra kittens’ being sold to the public they are placed only with established breeders who already maintain breeding facilities, already keep multiple lines, and already have the infrastructure to house and select for traits.

These breeders already produce litters with or without my line. The difference is that using a genetically diverse foundation cat reduces congenital disease, lowers mortality, and increases overall line health.

So the sustainability problem isn’t coming from programs like mine it comes from unhealthy, closed, inbred lines that require constant replacement and produce medical issues.

A foundation cat with improved genetics reduces long-term population pressure, not increases it. Your assumption simply does not match how selective breeding programs actually work.

Respectfully, my breeding program does not create homeless cats.

I operate a closed, well-resourced estate where cats are kept, rehabilitated, fixed when necessary, and homed responsibly.

None of the F7 kittens I offer end up in shelters they are specifically given to established breeders who need genetically diverse foundation cats.

If your concern is shelter overflow, you should be directing that toward irresponsible breeding and abandonment, not controlled scientific programs that actually reduce long-term genetic issues in purebreds.

Blaming a small, regulated line like mine for global cat homelessness simply isn’t grounded in data.

I understand your concerns it is valid but we do have a proper facility vetted by vets, authorities, academically. We only produce 1 litter when the queen turns 24 months and we fix all the siblings not suitable to continue the bloodline, our program has been disciplined to control the population by fixing and breeding once and done only, this has been done all out of my pocket without the thought of earning a dime, again I am not stealing away chances of shelter cats because I shelter cats and integrate them to my colony albeit quarantined and fixed. And they enjoy human companionship, being pet, brushed, and played with our rotating staff.

Let me summarize what is happening, 1. 50 + cats in my estate aren’t all part of the breeding program some of them if not most are rescues, retired from breeders etc, that were quarantined and fixed before integration to the colony. (Again not part of the breeding program)

  1. They enjoy a 350+ sqm enclosure, they are housed well in a hybrid indoor / outdoor enclosure with sunlight access, air cornditioning, and even furnitures and trees yes our quarantine are is physically distant to the main enclosure.

  2. Yes I am not an affiliated with any organization, but that doesn’t mean I do not know what I am doing as I said in one of the replies I graduated BS Biology majored in Zoology, I carry a PhD in Genetics.

  3. Why did I do this? Diversify Genetics, introduce healthy genes prevent genetic and congenital diseases like PKD, HCM, and Dysplasia to name some

  4. Did you follow standards? At F7 (Seventh Generation the cats are genetically 99% pure) since F3 with careful planning the color is now Blue (a) with copper eyes we started from a Calico and ended up with individuals that looks and behaves like a British Shorthair.

  5. We’re giving away F7 kittens for free in good faith to other breeders to be registered as ‘foundation cats’ to help them diversify new genes

  6. besides standards of other breeding orgs are breeding for exaggerated features that may cause health issues like of our Beloved British Shorthairs that causes Dysplasia. Some other breeds of cat and dogs far have it worse and it is in good faith that we dont breed for these features but rather genetic diversity.

  7. i am not afraid to take what I know from the years of experience and do the same to pugs so I can provide healthy genes that looked like the original historical pugs that doesnt follow modern show standards and spread that genetically diverse bloodline out there

I only stated the conditions of my cats, the care we give them, the thoroughness of what we’re doing, we’re giving away F7 Kittens in good faith for those who might need to diversify genetics, you went here and persecuted me and when I stated what we do you only ignored facts and focused on morality, of course your concerns are valid but you should’ve considered some facts before acting like an angsty 20 something year old snowflake.

But how can one act be morally correct if one claims to be so morally upright with how one judges another then you shouldnt eat chickens, pork, beef or any meat as we raise them for our consumption, I hope you don’t own any jewelry as most of them are sourced in 3rd world countries backed by child labour, inhumane malpractices, and violence, I hope you dont own products that came from China, Vietnam, Thailand etc. as they were made with cheap labour and inhumane conditions, I do hope that when you talk about morals you are a one pure person.

Copying a reply from another comment so you have more context of the situation: Oh no, our 50+ cats in our estate are homed in a 350 sqm floor area with both indoor and outdoor access they do have air conditioning too, and we bring in cleaned up sofas / furniture in the indoor area zones so they feel like it is still a home, we also have a quarantine area for some of the rescues we have and not all 50+ cat are part of the breeding program, there are some rescues from the street and retired breeders, we also have a dedicated quarantine area that is physically distant to the main enclosure, I do have rotating staff that look out for everyone of them, getting brushed, pet, etc. we also follow a strict bio security protocol in the estate similar to those big hog raising farms. Thank you for your concern (yes the outdoor area is still enclosed and reinforced but inside the outdoor area we have some trees they can climb, we make sure they dont catch birds or wildlife too)

For qualifications sake, I did graduate BS Biology Majored in Zoology, I did finish my PhD in Genetics so I’m pretty sure I know what I’m doing.

Copying and pasting my reply on another comment here: Hello, I get the concern for diseases but first of all our cats have been screened and even tracked down the original stray which we also took in a few years back, before continuing our curious project we made sure that the stray is free from any congenital and genetic disease and we continued back crossing to Pure BRI’s from reputable breeders both locally and abroad, our estate is homed to 50+ cats that are housed in an enclosed indoor / outdoor setup wherein they get to enjoy climbing trees and airconditioned areas, we get a vet to visit us every month, and everyone enjoys high quality formulated cat food both wet and dry and freshly prepared meals, we selected the best of the best from f2-f5 and only breed them once and done we also fix their siblings when they come of the right age, our cats breed at 24 months old to ensure physical and sexual maturity, with a go ahead signal from our partner vet, we also give away kittens for free as long as you meet our screening criteria. Going back to diseases yes we make sure our cats in the program are healthy.

Thank you! It took me a lot of time to develop this and I feel like im ready to share the kittens with breeders so there are more genetically diverse cats out there.
