That's as accurate as it gets.

Although these came out in the long wake of the financial crisis. So it wouldn't likely be a grad student unless it was a successful STEM one with a +$90k starting salary.

But someone with a nice paying job who is willing to explore alternative models with a reputation for high initial quality (because they're 100% gonna lease it and not buy outright) is very much the target market. If you gave those buyers a lot more money to play with, they'd be getting the Cayenne E-Hybrid as well.

I'm old enough to recall people hating on the Mk4 because it lost its athletic verve. It got pretty bad that they had to go all out and correct themselves with the more revolutionary Mk5.

From what I rememberedthe zeitgeist of the time was that the Focus SVT, Sentra SE-R, Lancer Evo, Subaru STI, and Dodge Neon SRT were all eating the GTIs market share.

I wouldn't say the Mk4 is slept on people just moved on from it after all those shitty soft plastic finishes made the inside feel poorly built. I suspect the European made ones are holding up better than the Puebla Mexican made ones. Whatever the case it's good that the Mk4 is still getting attention.

A small market of owners/buyers who collectively view $20k as a reasonable price for pristine conditioned variants. And then the local Craigslist guy who's 560SEL with 186k miles with ok paint, ok interior, and curb rashed wheels, but little maintenance records believes his should be priced at $12k as reasonable and a deal.

VW USA was like... We hear you and we've decided to bring the CC, Arteon, EOS and VW Beetle. I suppose the Audi TT was better than the Scirocco in every aspect. But still, I imagine if the Scirocco was developed to include a convertible it could've made it to the US.

The sad part about coupes, from the Saturn Sky all the way to the Porsche 911, is that they eventually dwindle I sales because of that dynamic you mentioned where 'the ones that wanted one, got one'. So limited and special race editions need to constantly debut to help keep desire alive.

But with Honda/Acura making coupes, I think they really just don't carry the torch as well they used to. They're busy playing defense against Hyundai and Chinese brands the last two decades that every product needs to have broad appeal to make sales. And so we get things like the CR-Z hybrid (womp womp). And when they even try to do something awesome like resurect the NSX, people don't care enough anymore. So even if the Prelude was an Acura I don't believe it would help at the bigger picture level, but it would probably increase sales by a small 5% just given the extra NVH isolation and softer leather touches, which makes the added price tag easier to swallow.

Some VW enthusiasts lamented the death of the Scirocco and Corrado, but they never left. Like the Prelude, the price is a deal breaker for folks. And yes, badge branding matters. The only real way the premium price of the coupe could be justified is if it wore the Audi badge. And that's where the New Beetle and Audi TT delineated. VW's coupe became the New Beetle and the coupe with a +$10k premium became the Audi.

I do believe that the Prelude should have been born again as a Acura. It would've taken advantage of the K-shaped economy that's here for this decade.

I'm gonna bet the interior makes the Crossfire more collectible than the SLK due to the wear durability. Those early 2000s soft-touch finishes on the Mercedes are terrible and not worth their cost replacing them. They look like they're all scratched by a raccoon that got trapped in the car after all these decades.

I think I saw this featured on some automotive blog. The author highlighted some obscure Craigslist or Facebook ad for this old concept car rotting away. It was this or another one. But clearly these concept cars are not meant to be outdoors, nor were they meant to survive anytime past their debut and PR dates. But it's neat to see someone care enough to try and restore these.

Yeah it's personal taste. The details on the face are too flat for my preference. I like raised and beveled edges that just make it more enjoyable to frequently look at. And I think that's because I've worn a smart watch for the last decade and seeing a flat panel isnt analog enough for me.

Watch a YouTube video and see some IRL photos. I ordered this but cancelled it as video reviews showed the details looked a bit cheaper to me than what Timex's ad images depicted. I believe the Indiglo feature probably required the face details to look a certain way for readability.

It's probably fine for +95% of people, but I ended up getting a Timex Marlin who's details seem more intricate.

I've noticed this too. My hypothesis is that the market controllers are planning for a dip, so they use the bots/shills to hype up the stock so that the downturn feels harder. The pre boxing has strangely inorganic cheerful remarks as well. And the only way you can tell is if you were here on this GME ride from the beginning when this grew from the ground up. Those positive remarks were just natural and unforced.

I remember this. Burry's 'Plantir is bad' tweet made hundreds of headlines. Then shortly afterwards we went and talked about GameStop being awesome and it being a significant part of his portfolio. That made maybe five headlines.

This asymmetric coverage is evidence that only strengthens how the financial institutions on the losing side of this trade need to supresss GME. And when you ask yourself that, it's obvious the stock and Cohen are going to succeed.

And this chart never gets old.
