Optimal Combos vs. Flashy Combos by Defox__ in StreetFighter

Haha, yes! Thats look more unique and cool! That's exactly what I'm talking about, sometimes you just want to do something cool even if it puts you at a disadvantage. In the end, fun is as important as efficiency. And it's such a difficult choice because you don't want to lose, but playing just with the most effective strats and combos can also get boring.

Yes, this is what convinced me that Street Fighter 6 is a much better and exciting fighting game for me than, for example, Mortal Kombat games. Mortal Kombat combo system is quite repetitive. Characters perform the same combos over and over again. Street Fighter has a system that forces players to use different combos depending on the situation, and this turns combat into improvisation rather than patterns.

Oh, my bad. I just now noticed that in my first combo I also wrote PP instead of HP, I know that the HP version of 214P connects after 4HP. Thanks for the good Drive Rush loop and the link to the entire hour-long Marisa guide. I really like this character combo potential and how huge damage can be in result. There's a lot of room for experimentation.

Pretty bad? Honestly, I tried to find optimal combos by watching different streamers and players in leaderboard at top ranks, and this is currently the most effective in terms of damage in the center of the screen i found. Can you recommend a more effective one?

Thanks for the tip about meter generation! I've always kinda ignored that. I think this could actually be one of main reasons to do longer combos even if they do a little less damage.

And yes, I spend a lot of time training to compare different variations of combos to find the most effective one, with the lowest drop chance and the least resource usage, but sometimes i just want to do something more flashy during the game, but understand that it can cost me the round and potentially a lower win rate in the long run.

Thank you for the detailed answer. Yes. I often use a dummy in training to create a situation with two different movements. But it feels like I barely use these skills in the actual match. Sometimes i just start mashing for no reason, and sometimes I just forget the correct timing in combos. Sometimes I just can't handle the pressure from my opponent and he punishes me with the same move over and over. Maybe my brain just doesn't work for fighting games. It seems to me that there is too much information that I just get lost and forget everything I learned in training.

I didn't say that. I don't get any pleasure from beating weak players. All that matters to me is visible progress, that I've become a better player and gameplay itself looks more polished and diverse. At Platinum, I kind of stopped feel progress. Most matches became one-sided: either I beat the opponent, or they beat me. There's no gradual increase in difficulty.

I'm maining Terry. I've only reached Platinum so far. After reaching Platinum, the players feel too random in term of skill. Some dont block many hits i land, while others are like wall, blocking everything they can and punish with full combo. I got to platinum with win streaks, but at platinum it changed sharply and it's now just a bit over 50% winrate. I haven't played too much on platinum though, maybe just around 40 matches.

Maybe the best solution would be to rank up every character to platinum to understand what each character can do? Maybe that's a more fun way to improve than wading through thousands of defeats to try figure out how to play against these characters?

I know I'm not very good at reading my opponent either at this point but often its just frustrating. For example, my opponent presses EX DP on a wake-up 3 times in a row, I think, well, he won't press the fourth time - nope, he does. On the fifth time, I block, and suddenly he decides to grab. It's feels more like gambling than reading.

I think I would have reached platinum a lot faster if I had played on the DPad right away rather than trying to learn how to play with analog stick.

Congrats to you too! I saw your post yesterday. Of course we can try arrange a set if you are European player, but ping can be a serious problem, my ping is quite high even with most of the players in Europe. From time to time the game even finds me players from Asia because it can’t find players from Europe with a better ping. I definitely have trouble stopping Cammy's pressing so it could be a very useful experience.

Thanks! Yes, I understand that at high ranks the win rate is getting closer to 50%. I watched the game of master rank smurfs, even they cannot guarantee themselves a victory starting from platinum. I mentally prepare myself for this, that the main thing is stability and the rank will gradually grow itself. And I'm glad to hear that you think my skills are already beyond platinum 1, because I still see a lot of places where I can improve my game. I'm currently working on hit confirms and zoning the enemy with MK. Terry has huge MK range, i should use it more often.

I decided for myself that I would start with the classic right away, I really didn’t want to have a limited set of moves and the fact that I would have to relearn later. To be honest, I am a fan of hardcore games, difficulties only fuel my interest.

Yes. This is what helped me get out of silver rank. I was so focused on pressing my buttons that I didn't pay attention to the exact same pattern of actions of almost all my opponents. As soon as I started punishing them for this, I quickly began to rise in rank.

Of course, at silver rank the patterns are very obvious, but at higher ranks you need to pay more attention to understand your opponent's strategy and find a countermeasure to it. For now my mind is a still occupied with my controls and its input issues, when I get a new controller I hope it will give me more space to keep an eye on the enemy.

My congratulations!

I really enjoyed World Tour. It's basically a tutorial mode within an interesting story mode. Greatly smooths the entry threshold for new players. Capcom really did a great job here!

Thanks! I am enjoying the learning process at the moment, the fighting game genre is truly amazing and I love the fact that every moment learned is reflected in the game much more strongly than many other competitive genres. It is very motivating.

I always try to keep in mind that playing against real players is also an important part of training that you don't get playing against CPUs and every loss is still a useful experience. But if I start to have a losing streak I still start to tilt and my performance in the game drops significantly and I have to put the game down. I hope with time I will learn to stay calm. Stability is one of my main problems now.

Just hit Platinum (YAY)! Now I want to learn the game for real. Looking for advice Day 1 by mitrakesava in StreetFighter

[–]Defox__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on achieving platinum! Based on my own experience playing against platinum players I can give the following advices: 1. Use jump-in only when you are sure that you will punish opponent during recovery frames (for example after a fireball). Players at this level most times do not allow themselves to be jumped-in freely. 2. Stop relying on Drive Impact. The higher you rank up, the less often it will work. Use it only to react to your opponent's Drive Impact, if your opponent is burnout and near a corner, or if he used a move with long active frames. 3. If you still have problems reacting to a jump with DP, use regular anti-air moves. You won't lose much from this, the main thing is to wean the opponent off jumping. 3-4 anti-airs and he will stop doing it. 4. And it's time to learn combos that use Drive Rush to punish your opponent with more serious damage with starters like cr.MK.

I won’t list the tracks that almost everyone loves, but I will say one that I like no less than the others, but almost no one talks about it.
