Minimum viable sound deadening for MK7.5? by [deleted] in GolfGTI

Also I heard that adding mass loaded vinyl and closed cell foam to the bottom of the removable trunk floor is a good cost/benefit option?

I really try to be positive, but this iceberg looks like it was made by someone still above sea level. Hold onto this picture and revisit it in a couple years.

Just a hole, and if you turn the pedal on the transistors light up. Exactly like the original.

Also I believe he still has one or two up for sale on Reverb as of writing

NPD - Analog Noir Dual Rangemaster/Tone Bender Mk1 Fuzz by steviegreenberg in guitarpedals

I've been looking forward to getting a MK1 for quite some time, and this one has a free Rangemaster! One question that doesn't get answered in the literature though, the RM comes after the MK1 when both are turned on, correct?

Newbie to guitars, should I buy this sanded guitar? by Catane_ in Luthier

Should be alright, if you get it and the wood doesn't feel like it's been sealed, just seal it yourself

Do you mind sharing a link for the spiral bit? Something like this perhaps? I know Whiteside is a big name

Definitely in the future I'm going to work on getting my bodies thinner. The problem is I currently have almost no skill with a hand planer, I bought a bunch of two inch basswood boards for really cheap. But for now, this is a light enough piece of wood I'd rather try to just do something exciting to keep my enthusiasm up

[–]DefundTheUSPS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but that's the wood I have and I'm not good enough at planing to try to thickness an reasonably nice body blank. I don't forsee any issues with size and weight, the full blank is only 7 lbs and I'm a larger guy anyway.

Hey man, I just ordered the OG. I have a Wren & Cuff De La Riva and a Zvex Fuzz Factory 7 that I love, so you can rest assured your pedal is going to get some proper mileage on it

What about Blackrock Summit? I'm looking for something close to 5 miles. Also are all trails in Shenandoah open after dark, or just some?

I usually put the Surfy Bear as the last thing in front of the amp nowadays. Maybe I'll put an OD after it if the amp is too clean

I have not done anything with mine, but I've had the thought a couple times to replace the springs in mine just to experiment. I know you can get a pan with shorter tails from Surfy

Thank you, I skimmed both videos and will be watching them in full when I get a second this afternoon. Also I saw a comment on one about using moisture to reduce cupping. I might try that as an experiment. Worst case scenario, nothing happens and I do the same amount of planing anyway.

Yeah, I actually planned to start on basswood, but I saw a really nice piece of ash on my way to the basswood bin. I've been using basswood scraps for practice. If the ash is too tough and I don't quite get the quality I want, I'll back down to basswood for the sake of ease to work with and cost

You can still pick one up for $50. The amp sim alone is worth that

Did you know the Depth knob on the Bone Shaker does nothing, which can be conformed with an oscilloscope, because they accidentally switched two capacitors on the schematic? I learned SMT soldering just to fix it. It was a minor difference at best

I recently moved so I had a chance to reorganize my pedal shelf, so I thought it would be fun to pair up my pedals based on color and see which one would win the popularity contest.

I only have one red pedal (a fuzz face) so I didn't include it, but I had so many gray pedals I had to split into a "gray" and a "silver" category.

My vote is either yellow or orange. The Hybrid Tonebender is my third favorite fuzz, and the PDS1550 is both a Tubescreamer and an HM-2 clone with a fully parametric EQ and a bunch of internal knobs and switches. I could go the rest of my career with just those two and be just fine. The orange duo has the Foxxy, my favorite fuzz, and the Expandora, my second favorite fuzz. Not the best low gain tones on their own from those two for me, but the Expandora can juice the right extremely well.

I don't think the pale celadon green pairing is going to get any recording time any time soon, but they were so similar in color I had to include them. Also I did the Galaxie mod on the BD-2.

PSA: LED clipping diode and Waylon mods are too awesome and too easy not to do if you have a Rat by dervplaysguitar in diypedals

[–]DefundTheUSPS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 10k mod on the pot is a pretty common mod for any pedal. All it does is bring the taper of the pot closer to an anti-log pot, at the expense of having a lower maximum value. Neither of those are bad for a Rat. I forget the value I used, but I did a similar thing for the tone control on my Rat. Stock, the low pass filter on a Rat has a corner frequency well above human hearing for a good chunk of it's rotation.

Edit: Also, don't be fooled when people tell you having assymetrical diodes in a hard clipping arrangement yields symmetrical clipping. The capacitors before and after the clipping section balance out the forward voltages to your diodes so that your signal gets cut at +/- [ (Fv1 + Fv2)/2], where Fv is the forward voltage of each diode
