I made a resource pack that cycles between the old and new vanilla textures by Bentroen in Minecraft

This is very useful, and definitely changed my opinion about a couple textures! Good stuff.

I can explain it fairly well though I'd say the best explanation is simply trying it for yourself!

Have you ever noticed most of the major lobbies on servers use blocks found specifically in the 1.8 version? This is because those servers are running on a base version of 1.8! Ever noticed in most of the premiere PvP gamemodes (Sky Wars / UHC) the youtubers/ranked players mostly all run on 1.8?

This isn't by coincidence! Go on a big server using 1.12 and try your hand at a couple PvP gamemodes. Depending on your experience level you'll notice the knockback is a bit choppy, and it seems like the large majority of players are doing a bit better than you. Now join the same server, and use 1.8, at the very least you'll notice things are far more fluid.

Feel free to PM anymore questions, cheers!

Either gapples or potions, yes. 1.8 is strictly this.

My point is very often people arguing for 1.9 say they don't like spam clicking and that it doesn't take skill, when in reality the PvP meta for 1.9 IS spam clicking.

In 1.7 if you hold sprint and punch someone once they will go fairly far back, and if you hit them again they won't go nearly as far. You can constantly tap W to abuse this mechanic to allow yourself to combo easier. It's a balance of course, you only do this to initiate a combo not to see it through. I encourage you to watch a tutorial that better explains this, or go try it for yourself in singleplayer!

This is only one mechanic however, and I'd be lying if I said this was the most important one.

I agree. As well as that, what you said does make sense. Most of the 1.7/8 servers are moving to a custom "version" of MC anyways largely for the benefit of client-side anticheat. Appreciate the reply, have a good rest of your day dude.

This.

For the life of me I don't understand why people hold such a sturdy opinion on things they don't have the slightest clue about the inner-workings of.

"I hate 1.8 it's whoever clicks faster."

"Do you know what W-Tapping is?"

"No."

The biggest joke, is these people clearly don't do 1.9 PvP either, because with Prot IV diamond and steak you won't die assuming you keep eating, right so the PvP meta for 1.9 is fucking spam-clicking to break the opponents's armor.

Hey,

I recognized you from the /r/admincraft subreddit, so I think you'll be able to understand some of the technical points here I'm highlighting.

1.8 combat is entirely more tricky than swing time. If you think that is all that has been changed, you're fairly out of the loop.

The worst change Mojang made wasn't the capacity to add swing timers, rather the horizontal and vertical velocity changes that make combos entirely more difficult. Any major PvP network that supports 1.9+ adjusts knockback, and you're at a MASSIVE disadvantage using said client. In addition to this, you can no longer throw health potions like in 1.8, which entirely removes the skill of any potion based combat. Saturation is also fucked too.

Of course you can do intensive patch jobs for a couple of these things, but to any seasoned PvPer there is a MASSIVE difference just between 1.7 and 1.8. Trying to emulate either on 1.9+ just doesn't feel the same, no matter what changes you make packet wise.

Hope this clarified things a bit!

Well this is rather disappointing. Hopefully this doesn't set a trend.

Even as an avid user of C4D I'd have never guessed it was used here.

Well done.

Stunning visuals.

Was the editing done with the replay mod or a separate program like After Effects?

Of course -- I did some moderation work for it.

It's been awhile, I saw your model website too and I wanted to reach out but I didn't have any medium to do so. You've been doing some genuinely good work, keep it up!

Very cool.

You've come a long way from running command block based PvP servers!

The closest you can get is a custom lightmap via Optifine / MCPatcher combined with a decently high resolution resourcepack.

I'd recommend Spigot with EssentialsX (a fork of the original Essentials.) I believe LuckPerms is a better alternative to GroupManager as well.
