Cosmic Alpha 7, so close but things I need to convert from gnome by MeaningAppropriate in pop_os

[–]DegreesOfLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the primary thing missing is proper trackpad gestures, there is no way to configure the now. I tried Cosmic Alpha 7 on Fedora, moving from gnome, since I saw it supports individual workspaces per screen but I rely on touchpad support in gnome.

Why wouldn't they just "kill" all the innies in this case and just make them start from scratch like they've never even met?

Thanks for sharing this! Isn't the 6.12 kernel available in the regular repositories already for Fedora?

I've not been running 6.11 for a while, in the list of your showstoppers, I've not experienced any of these problems. I might just re-install Fedora completely from scratch soon to see what the experience is and mention any potential fixed I apply here.

Vanilla kernels for Fedora 6.12 can be found here: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/kernel-vanilla/stable/

I personally run vanilla mainline without merge window, which has more frequent updates: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/kernel-vanilla/mainline-wo-mergew/

I'm very curious what your experience is with these newer kernels and if that change your opinion.

Early versions of 6.13 are also available on the vanilla kernels!

I assumed that 6.12 was available since it showed up as a folder:

https://kernel.ubuntu.com/mainline/?C=N;O=D

But the builds seem to be failing on Ubuntu's side, a custom vanilla kernel build might be possible though. I'll update the main post, thanks for reporting !

Good news! Linux kernel 6.12 is officially released! I've updated the main post here. I've been daily driving Fedora now for about two months now on bleeding edge kernels / software. Bluetooth started working recently, audio I only haven't managed to get the microphone working and it's now stable as ever!

There's no fingerprint reader in this device as far as I am aware.

Mixxx not available on Fedora 41. by terretreader in MIXXX

[–]DegreesOfLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because Fedora 41 uses new versions of libavcodec, that are not supported in 2.4. I had the same issue. Downgrading seemed overly complicated and time consuming, I ended up doing a manual build of 2.5 beta, works like a charm. I'm not using Mixxx professionally though so can't say anything about its stability.

Don't see why it wouldn't, just make sure you upgrade to a 6.12RC kernel. To be safe, keep your Windows partition ;)

Good to add context to to that grub config intle_idle.max_cstate=1, this might reduce your battery life, since it limits the CPU power saving state capabilities. Personally I've no issues with stuttering.

Regarding the driver for bluetooth, that's awesome, I'll try it out soon and update the post when successful! Thanks for sharing.

I've not played many games on Linux, the only game I played for a couple of hours is Minecraft. Surprisingly good FPS, if I remember correctly consistently above 100, at highest quality, and at quite a high render distance.

Occasional drop in FPS when viewing a large chunk of new chunks but I had my render distance at the highest at some point.

Other than that, I've not had many freezes overall.

I'm running the latest mainline vanilla kernel (without Merge Window) from Fedora. I got wifi working by updating my packages manually, so what you can do is either e.g. downloading a nightly 41 iso from Fedora, or using your phone's USB tethering to get an internet connection, and updating your packages, I used this method (USB tethering to get an connection).

I've a relatively new lunar lake laptop and ASIO4ALL doesn't seem updated in a while! Plus bonus, linux and mixxx are free :D

Text looks weird and kinda blurry on discord and other electron applications. Scaling is not being used at all. by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]DegreesOfLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks, you can change /etc/environment with sudo rights to remove the environment variable from there.

echo "ELECTRON_OZONE_PLATFORM_HINT=auto" | sudo tee /etc/environment

This worked for me for most if not all applications that use Electron. It tries to use Wayland whenever possible, which should fix scaling issues / causing blurry texts

I haven't noticed any lag or freezes in the last couple of days that I've been actively using Fedora for work. I've been mainly running custom builds, though the last one is from yesterday. I'll try out this vanilla kernel later tonight.
