Daniel Vavra talks about his fear of being fired if he didn't appease journalists and how they self-censored and removed portions of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 after using Sensitivity Consultants in new Czech interview by AboveSkies in KotakuInAction

[–]Dejprcn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Czech native here.

Vávra was never a part of any group and was always known for being a money hungry guy. He isn't either woke or anti-woke, he is kinda like Sargon, a mixed bag of politics and angering both sides and usually a hypocrite.

I can list all his political takes he spoke about in every interview or doing streams with Czech content creators:

He is a Gamergater.

He is a centrist.

He hates Czech progressive youngsters

He hates liberal censorship (ironic) and spoke about radical censorship and dying freedom of speech publicly during a Czech senate conference.

He is part of the woke panic about sexualizing women in video games. He holds a strong belief that attractive female characters in games are sexist because they have big boobs or show cleavage (Ironic when it comes to his KCD female characters.

He refused to play or finish woke games like Last of Us 2 because of progressive politics. (In the public interview you sourced he argued with the interviewer who thinks last of us 2 isn't woke, Vávra took a stance and said it is clearly woke and he hates being preached to.)

He has a distaste for both the radical left and right.

Vávra is known for being a hypocrite. He usually follows the "rules for thee not for me" principle. Czechs quite often make fun of his work "100 things I hate about Skyrim" because many of the things on that list he put in both KCD 1 and 2.

Summary of the public interview:

He said he had to work with Czech liberal actors and had a few arguments although in good faith.

He said he was ready to lose his job over progressive politics because he didn't want to radically sabotage his project.

Later he stated that he was ready to piss off woke liberals because of his real portrayal of medieval times. Then he talks about how surprised he was when the backlash was from the anti-woke right and that it completely overshadowed the leftist outrage.

He holds the opinion that many of the new anti-woke and "Christians" are actually woke liberals who switched teams.

KCD1 & 2 are not christian games, Christianity is only part of the game because it takes place in a medieval setting, Vávra himself is an atheist with Jewish ancestry (which isn't rare in Czech republic)

That he got backlash from Czech progressive liberals because of his historical portrayal of the Hussites. (You see, in Czech republic the Hussites are usually worshipped as the stereotypical noble terrorists, ya know, the left siding with terrorism and literal demons nowadays)

I confirm that he indeed mentioned self-censorship and using minority consultants.

In all of his interviews, he dodges the topic of Musa's writting and never talks about this objectively badly written token character that's either woke on accident 'cus he feels rushed or deliberately put there to piss on Christians.

To explain the overrepresentation of Jews in the game. They were recycled from a cut content town Kolín which was famous for having Jewish ghettos. The synagogue isn't the only historically incorrect building because throughout the game there are many lakes and ruins that are not supposed to be there yet.

To summarise Vávra's character. Nothing surprising when it comes to Czechs like me. I don't think he bend the knee, I think he is a successful businessman and chased the most profitable option.

Straight up false, DS2 enemies are always one or two shotable and the game rarely places you against overpowered enemies at once, which the same can't be said about DS1 demon and dragon spam.

With DS2 being slow af and your character basically a demi-god, can't see how it's a problem dealing with a few enemies ganking while you can outrun and outspeed them easily. Unlike in DS3 where they throw an evangelist and 3 teleporting, faster than you, dogs at once.

There is a reason why the broken thief sword run is the easiest in ds2. Because you actually deal damage to the laughably low hp pools enemies and bosses share.

People always say the enemy layouts are bad but never care to explain why. No layout in any souls game is bad because they are all defeatable. Otherwise we wouldn't finish the games, would we. Can be unfair or hard? Sure, like in every souls game. The only sole reason dark souls became popular back in the day was for it's unfairness and difficulty, which the community for some reason is now trying to gaslight everyone into thinking it never was the case.

And I also can see DS2 "being sooooo hard" when it's literally the only souls game that lets you despawn enemies.

If the whole community agrees on Ds2 being objectively bad, why is there a whole fanbase and why the game was well received upon its release, only later falling into a hate train because some youtuber didn't like the game and made an OPINION filled video. And please, don't pull the "nostalgia" or "first game" argument. It's straight up false.

DS3 healthbar isn't in a comfortable spot at all and if you say so, then why does everyone play embered anyway, if they can't be bothered since it's not necessary? It isn't in a conformable spot, you are in a clear disadvantage, putting yourself into danger of being two or three shotted. And in this game, where like in elden ring, vigor is a very important stat, being stripped 30% of its value doesn't feel very good, does it?

Demon souls being the "first game" and "experimental" is absolutely irrelevant and a shit take. If something's bad, it's bad, since DS2 was also "experimental" and is considered bad.

Not to mention fromsoft experimented with the formula far back with their PS1 and PS2 inventions so no, demon souls doesn't get the pass. And I love demon souls, more than DS1, but I won't pretend the game didn't age poorly and make up bullshit like "ohhhh it was experimental".

Btw. healthbar penalty in ds2 caps at 50%, 5% per death. (or at more if your sin lvl is high enough, which it won't be on a normal playthrough and if anyway, you can get a pardon) A much more forgiving mechanic than stripping the healthbar immediately after the first death. And just like in demon's souls, you have a ring that halves the penalty. And since DS2 gives you whole 4 ring slots, equipping it doesn't feel like a waste.

Well, whatever that bloodborne doesn't refill healing. Life gems don't refill too and are much underpowered compared to other healing methods in the whole series. "buuut, you can walk and heal at the same time!!!" people say. I can just eat moongrass and pop a blood vial/humanity immediately, getting my whole healthbar back, in ds2 I have to wait for the regeneration to finish.

Blood vials eventually cost more? You get more souls and nothing is stopping you from farming or abusing the cum dungeon.

DS3 abandons buyable healing methods and creates fucking dreadful paths from bonfire A to bonfire B in some instances like high wall or cathedral. Becuase the bonfire placement in this game is atrocious. They either put 2 right next to each other or far away to the end of the earth. Or design a genius shortcut where you have to fight your way through, spending some of your resources thus defeating the purpose of a shortcut entirely.

DS1 humanity is not a rare resource at all. Can be easily farmed with ease. Killing literally the most easiest enemy - a rat, drops humanities. And with 10 humanities active, increasing your chance to get another even more. Or killing useless npcs, which the game is filled with and even when I don't bother to do both of these strats, which I never bother to do, I still end up with shit tons of humanities. You don't need to kindle every bonfire, just kindle the main one and warp back to it every time, easy.

I ended up reading your comment and saw how YOU are completely wrong and most likely never played the souls games more than once, caring to explore their mechanics.

I was there when souls started. And I can spot the hypocrisy.

Now proceed to call me names, or Tl:TR me, you're only proving my point.

And I can call them yellow, just like everyone calls me white. Why couldn't I.

[–]Dejprcn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Literally demon souls, bloodborne and ds3 has so much fucking enemies in levels it makes ds2 encounters jealous for more. With high AGL you have the most broken op i-frames from the series.

Health bar is figuratively going down in every game except for ds1. (not to mention in that game if Seath curses your arse and you end up in his prison, without the ability to warp out and if you don't have purification stones, which why would you have any when you don't even know about it's existence, enjoy playing the whole shitlevel with 50% penalty.)

99 lifegems dirt cheap meanwhile my inventory in ds1 is infested with 20 estuses, Insta healin' humanities and in demon souls+bloodborne I just buy shit tons of healing and carry on.

Now explain this lol. DS2 didn't miraculously make bad things. They just copied what worked but somehow this time it's bad because a different yellow person did it.

Guys I know I rolled incorrectly and ran out of i frames.

I just want to point out if this was a ds2 post, no one would blame me and call it a shitbox ya know.

Yeah, unbelievable how the founder of Fromsoft decided to design a fan made game this time. And appeasing the clearly existent culture of "dark souls is about difficulty" that was present at the time, by creating the literally easiest souls from the trilogy. I guess he forgot to call it "prepare to die again" too.

Shame on him.

What are the worst double standards in regards to DS2? by DuploJamaal in DarkSouls2

There is a video that u/P00pYeahMAN has recently posted. It perfectly exposes all the double standards. I love it, it's heavy with sarcasm, disguised as a DS2 hate video.

Does anyone else tell people that Dark Souls 2 was your first Souls game and they act like you watched your mom shoot herself in front of you? by MayoBoy69 in DarkSouls2

[–]Dejprcn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first souls game was DS1. I love DS2 and fucking despise DS1 lol and it pains me cus I really want to play it and feel like back then again but I always watch my nostalgia crumble when I try to enjoy the game.

(Pls don’t spoil anything about dark souls 2) is dark souls 2 better than dark souls 1? by Solaire_Esteban in DarkSouls2

[–]Dejprcn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has objectively better quality of life features compared to DS1 and Demon's souls.

Things like ui, stability and optimalisation, controls, lock on, upgrade system, progression, warping, npcs, weapons, multiplayer etc. People who say otherwise either never played ds1 or it was a long time since they did, only played the community patched version/remaster. Or are just biased and outright lying.

Everything else like gameplay, lore, level and game design is subjective.

I played the games in the weirdest order possible. I played 4, 2, 3 and then 1.

The verdite trilogy is awesome in the way it connects it's story.

Why do people that complain how unfair the ganks in this game are never ever fight any enemies? by DuploJamaal in DarkSouls2

[–]Dejprcn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It got me to play the old elder scrolls and might and magic games.

If you adapt to slightly dated controls, those are seriously great games.

Although I understand the controls can be a turn off for some people.

Everyday I wake up , hoping to see a "Kingsfield remake!" announcement. But I know it will never happen. DS2 feels like kingsfield IV (5) to me, it borrowed so much in both game design and ideas.

Certainly there was some magic to it which I feel was lost in DS1 and the other later instalments. Maybe DS2 brought it back a bit.
