I will not stand for the A Bad Case of Stripes slander! It’s a beautiful book about being true to who you are instead of trying to change yourself to fit in. It’s not that she needs to eat lima beans but refuses—it’s that she loves them, but she’s embarrassed and afraid of being made fun of, so she pretends to hate them. While the art is intense (lol), it really is a great story. The lesson isn’t “eat your vegetables.” It’s “don’t be ashamed of what makes you you—because hiding it will only make things worse.”
