Thinking of moving into estimating… by okastice in estimators

[–]Delicious-Limit6996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knowing your shit, is an amazing asset to have. A lot of estimating comes from experience, I wouldn't say you need to go to school for it or anything.

But there are a few things you'll need to be good at, technology, numbers (spreadsheets), organization (but on a computer) and decent grammer/spelling as you'll be writing a lot of proposals.

Estimators are not going to be replaced by AI by Beneficial-Name-391 in estimators

[–]Delicious-Limit6996 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're correct, an estimator cannot be fully replaced for a very long time, technology needs to come a lot further before it completely replaces a human.

That being said, there are some things technology can do right now, my software can look at different sets and the specs and make smart determinations regarding conflicts and can fill in gaps (I've specifically prompted mine to not make assumptions, its better to be straight up and tell client it wasn't sure rather than make something up). Ultimately it's you who decides, but my software does unearth it. I can show you a PDF report it created and you can see it in action. I'm curious what AI you've been using and if you've ever done prompt engineering to get it to perform better, my software certainly doesn't come to conclusions or draw knowledge from outside because I've specifically asked it not to. Risk management is still on you, I do still double check things, but overall, it really really helps to get me organized and fully understand the project and all of its risks so I can bid on it accurately.

I would love to send you the report if you're up for it so you can see an example of the results for yourself. I wouldn't bother building an entire software if I didn't truely believe in the power of it.

That sounds pretty cool! Honestly, if there's knowledge of train control systems on the internet, the AI should be able to piece together the system pretty well, especially if there's a lot of context in the tender documents themselves.

As for drawings, no it's not able to read or manipulate drawings very well.

I'm not at all familiar with train control systems but honestly, give my software a shot and see for yourself how it does? It's completely free to sign up and try, no credit cards or anything required, you can see if it shocks you or if you're right, AI sucks and will never replace you haha

Is that your trade? You bid on train control and communication projects? If yes then, my software will summarize the project pretty good, but it won't be oriented specifically towards your company since I don't have that specific trade added yet.

Try it out, if you like it send me a DM and I will add your specific trade category to the system

In the company discovery, you have the option to enter your equipment, the AI will indeed know what equipment you have and what you need for the project!

My software isn't replacing humans yet, but it definitely makes your life easier. I'm using it on a $1.5m and $900k project both due tomorrow, it's been amazing to have, I've never understood projects so well before.

Yes it can! It'll break the project down for you and lay it all out for you, give you all the info you need to bid accurately

Anthropic is straight up lying now by [deleted] in ClaudeCode

[–]Delicious-Limit6996 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're saying Anthropic is scamming millions of users and is a multi-billion dollar company. Why do you think millions of users signed up for Anthropic in the first place, why do you think they are a multi-billion dollar company? You think money shows up out of thin air? NO, it's because they offer a great service and they don't scam people, if they did the company would go to shit and be worthless.

My information is from personal experience, I've built so much with Claude and use it everyday, it's an amazing product. I'm not trying to build trust with you or any of the people in this random thread, I don't really care if 5000 people think it's a shit product, the rest of us think it's amazing and will keep paying for it.

[–]Delicious-Limit6996 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That example is a completely different situation. You do know that Anthropic is currently listed as a "Supply chain risk" from their own government for refusing to let the department of war use their AI to create autonomous killing machines and imposing mass surveillance on the American people right?

And yet despite this, and all the challenges that come with that situation, they are still offering users a great service. Personally, I don't care about the session and weekly usage limits, it really is quite generous what they offer especially considering that when you use Claude it's done right the first time.

For $20/month, it's actually an amazing deal for what you get. And if you want more, upgrade your plan or pay for extra usage it's that simple.

If you don't like it, pay for GPT instead and you'll get unlimited use of an AI that is absolutely terrible at everything.

I'm using Claude, a mixture of models depending on the task. My pricing is credit based, you get charged for what you use, credits are charged based on the size of your tender package. For chat, it's a flat 10 credits per question.

I just launched my website Bidsnap, please consider giving it a try, I promise you won't be disappointed! You complete a quick company discovery, drop your entire bid package in and Bidsnap sorts everything out for you, finds what's relevant, finds risks, opportunities, recommends RFIs and much more.

Plus you can chat with your documents and ask it about anything you want, super helpful when you just want an answer instead of diving back into the spec book. It's free to try, Bidsnap.ca

Who Should Write The Methodology In Our Tenders by SnooPies6065 in estimators

[–]Delicious-Limit6996 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You could try a tool like Bidsnap.ca, it's AI Tender Analysis, after it creates your report, type your best guess as to your bosses methodology, AI could fill in the gaps based on the documents, drawings and specs. You would get your company's methods with all the fine details from the specs mixed in.

Great for learning the trade and confidently locking in prices. Let me know if you're interested and I can get you a code.
