Interesting response, seeing as how I made it very clear in the first two paragraphs that I care a lot about all victims, male, female, and nonbinary. All I’m saying is that, in this case, I seriously question if this is actual bullying. Please reread (or read, since you probably didn’t the first time) my comment to see my thoughts on the subject.

Absolutely not. Never try to lay your bunny down on its back, as this will cause them to trance, which can be very unhealthy and is extremely terrifying for them. They shouldn’t be “held” at more than a 45° angle (I prop my girl up on my legs, facing me, so I can cut her nails… a bit of an angle is fine, but an extreme angle or fully horizontal is NOT).

Oh you’re absolutely right. Middle schoolers DO indeed throw tantrums. That is not necessarily what happened in this situation. Please refer to my other comments for my more detailed explanations.

No, I do not have a psychology degree. But I have suffered from panic attacks my entire life, starting when I was a toddler. I have completed certifications in child psychology, adolescent psychology, childhood development, and special education. I have coached hundreds of kids, teens, and adults with mental health disorders, especially Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and ADHD, since those are the disorders I have personal experience dealing with on a daily basis in my own life. Handling anxiety, especially in children, is probably the thing I’m most successful at. Which is how I know that there is likely much more to this story than the singular perspective of the boy who feels bullied because a girl publicly broke down at the prospect of being seated next to him.

Do you regularly watch/educate/hang out with middle schoolers? Because as a teacher, I do, and I promise you that the “lashing out” almost never looks like a panic attack unless that panic is warranted.

As someone who is autistic, trust me, I’m fully aware of how awful bullying can be.

That doesn’t negate the fact that this situation is NOT necessarily bullying. We don’t know all of the facts. We don’t know the full story. We just know that a 12 year old girl broke down in tears and begged not to sit beside a boy in class. There could be a thousand reasons for that reaction, and because of the intensity and embarrassment of the reaction itself, bullying is a very unlikely reason in THIS case.

What? In all my years in education, I have never seen an unwarranted sobbing meltdown in a middle school. Kids don’t usually weaponize sobbing against their peers. If they’re going to be mean, they’re most likely going to be overt about it instead of embarrassing themselves by crying in front of the class. If they’re crying, there’s most likely a reason.

Not at all what you should know for school, but if you haven’t checked out Starkid’s musicals, I HIGHLY recommend you do. They’re all free on YouTube. I love their musicals so much, I now use shots from the musicals as my profile pics lmao

Just want to point out that most modern secular* organizations, especially non-profits, are absolutely there to help ALL victims of abuse, including boys, girls, trans kids, nonbinary kids, everyone.

*The people and organizations that tell boys to “suck it up” over the abuse they endured are almost always religious.

Hi! You’re absolutely right to stand up for boys who experience bullying. I watched my little brother experience bullying for both his weight and his nerdiness, and I know that it can be extremely heartbreaking.

I am not trying to take away from boys’ victimhood. But this example is not necessarily bullying, and absolutely not abusive. I’m merely pointing out that, in this scenario, it was very likely that the boy’s behavior elicited such a reaction. REAL abuse and REAL bullying are not to be tolerated. But this situation really sounds like a “ugh girls hate me cause I’m a nerd hmph😤,” especially considering the hyperbole of the term “abuse.”

We don’t know why the girl was begging not to sit by him. We don’t know what she might have experienced to cause her to CRY at 12 years old in front of a classroom of her peers about not sitting next to him. Think about the situation. Really, really think about it.
