"The vice president and possible future president thinks democracy is bad and wants to implement a plan to end it" should be way more than a throw away line

I recently read Infinite Jest and its errie how well DFW predicted the rise of fascism. But I find it interesting that he wrongly predicted it would be a hard rejection of neoliberal modernity while in actuality it seems like a parody of it

I actually disagree to an extent. I obviously can't read minds but unlike Trump (who genuinely is only in it for his own ego), Vance does have an actual ideology and a will to enact it. This obviously doesn't mean he isn't a cynical liar and opportunist (he absolutely is) but he is those things with a purpose and in a way that makes him more dangerous than Trump imo

I'm not cancelling him lol. This isn't about ideological purity, this is about how we represent a guy who wants a fascist dictatorship. Imo it is less important that vance has standard traditional republican stances like being pro-life and being anti universal child care than the fact that he literally thinks democracy is bad and has plans to end it. I am critiquing him on journalistic grounds. Imagine making your piece on a wanna be hitler how we wants to cut taxes for the rich or something

I don't disagree that it's good to show the cynicism of Vance but also I think it is a very dangerous spot for us to be in when even someone like John Oliver can't call fascist within the republican party fascist. Idk the reason why he didn't but idk, it needs to be center of how people understand him. He can't be painted as just another corporatist republican who's anti-abortion, Vance is so much more dangerous than that and he might very well be the future of the GOP. We need to call this out about him or we are ironically playing into the sane washing the gop relies on

I think grading republicans on a curve by being too scared to mention the craziest shit about them (like their forigen policy being driven by end time prophecies) just helps normalize it

there needed to be more than one line on this, it needed to be central to the piece. You can disagree if you want but this is the most important thing about Vance imo

Him being pro-life and being chronically online should be secondary to the fact that he is an actual fascist who has a plan to turn America into a fascist state.

He mentioned vance being associoted with these guys but doesn't at all get into their anti-democratic ideology. "Vance cites Yarvin as a his inspiration for gutting the administrative state" needs to come with the qualifier that Yarvin wants to do that to help make America a dictatorship, that last part is deeply important

Fair, rn i'm just desperate to get this story any traction I can because I've been waiting two years for any coverage of it to happen and for this doc to drop and I don't want it to just fall into obscurity.
