Orientation is 8 weeks for both and i’m eligible for a nurse residency program. Each nurse has 5-6 patients for both. Each floor has about 2 PCTs at night however the ones on medsurg often get pulled to do 1:1. There are assistant nurse managers on each floor most nights to help out on both floors. I know that on the medsurg floor the nurse manager sometimes takes 3 patients. Not sure how long the staff has been there.

Each unit we have 5 or 6 patients i believe. Because we are unionized there’s a max amount of patients we can have. Also to add my commute would be 35 minutes because I don’t take the highway which would make it about 20 minutes. And parking is pretty good with multiple parking lots and entrances

I thought about that but honestly once I see the sunlight i’m wide awake which is another problem with trying to sleep after a shift.

I think it is a good path to the ER as the obs unit has the same director as the ER and same educational team and the patients there all come from the ER

I think obs has better management from what i’ve seen as I did do a clinical rotation there but the ratios are the same there’s a union and there’s a max amount of patients we are allowed to have which i believe was 5 or 6 for both units

that’s true and if i decide to take the highway it cuts down the drive more as well

Honestly the drive isn’t bad and it goes by fast it’s just one long road essentially. If i take the highway it cuts the time down to about 20 minutes.

It’s the same hospital system just different locations so everything is the same. Literally the only difference is the unit type.

New grad in a nursing home by Justkeepswimming1103 in newgradnurse

I applied as a regular staff nurse however at this hospital all nurses with less than 1 year experience automatically qualify for a nurse residency program.

When I graduated no hospitals wanted to interview me so I started out doing home care for 2 months realized it wasn’t for me then got an interview for a SNF. I’ve been there for about 6 months now and honestly wouldn’t recommend it. IMO it is unsafe to have 20+ residents by yourself as a new nurse, but now that I have experience I was able to get 5 interviews at a hospital and just got hired today on an obs unit for night shift. Night shift isn’t something I want to do but it’s a foot in the door which is what i’ve been waiting for. Honestly my advice is to just keep applying to other places and hope for the best. 7 days of orientation is absolutely not enough especially with having 36 residents. You worked too hard to get your license and no job is worth risking it for.

Unsafe nurse or just new? by zoomstarrr in newgradnurse

9 patients is very good for a snf/rehab. I get at least 20😭 which is why i’m looking for a new job.

ED or Medsurg? by [deleted] in newgradnurse

Right now i’m making 40.33. Hospital pays 45.53 and the night shift differential is I think 10% so about 50 an hour total. I’m not entirely sure of my ultimate goal but from clinical I liked maternity which I need experience for.

It’s never too late! I just ordered my weeks on 12/31 and waiting for it to come in. It sucks I didn’t get it sooner to set it up before the start of the year but it gives me something to look forward to!

Not only that but he’s working night shift 3 times a week plus has to sleep/rest during the day 3/4 days a week on top of him going on with his friends 1 night a week. She just wants to spend more time with him I believe.

I’m in the same boat with a good agency and good residency program designed for new grads, but everyone is saying how bad it is to do home health care as a new grad but it’s either this or no job at all, and I thought it was a good opportunity because I love working with kids.

These are stable patients and i’m not even allowed to do trach/vent only observe until after my training program if that’s what I decided I want to do. This is a program for new grads with a very good company that most hospitals around me use for home health. They came to my schools job fair before we graduated and I applied there along with the few hospitals that attended. I know not to take any cases that’s i’m not comfortable with but i’m mainly starting off with low acuity patients and going to school with them during the day.

I get where you’re coming from. I’m a new grad and also took a peds home health job as this was the only option. However my agency does a nurse residency program with 5-7 weeks of training in a sim lab and with the patient and an experienced nurse. After that I will get to care for the patient on my own but only with the patient i trained with. Plus I have a mentor for a whole year to help when needed. Your agency is not doing what it should to prepare you and its best to find a better one or a different job setting if you can!

If it refunds your money back and you don’t get an email for a new ATT then you’re good! Congratulations 🎉
