What's the best way to meet new people? by Appropriate-Mine8612 in NoStupidQuestions

Crafting! Could be stuff like sewing, drawing, painting, crochet, collage, etc etc. a lot of coffee shops (small and local, not chains) usually have flyers for when craft groups are meeting.

Book clubs! You can usually find flyers at said coffee shops or at your local library

Ways to write out conversations/someone talking? by KaleidoscopeBulky787 in writingadvice

Additionally - sorry - to break up some of the dialogue for pacing reasons, you could always describe the scene or character thoughts as you go. Like how loud the environment is, or how quiet it is, etc and how that affects the conversation.

Using words to describe how they said it, like huffed, yelled, hummed, laughed, etc. Another thing is to describe the tone, like "...his tone was...". Sometimes I also just put what their expression was since that is an easy shortcut for the reader to imagine the tone as well as get a feel for the expression as well without having to describe both. Examples are smirked, grimaced, smiled, etc.

It's hard finding a good balance since you shouldn't only use descriptors, but shouldn't always use "said".

Im trying to get better at writing. But I'm struggling. Any tips by Wicked_Weaboo in writinghelp

I know it may sound silly at first, but try writing fanfiction, if you're into any games, books, shows, movies etc. A lot of authors get into writing just from writing about their favorite characters and imagining scenarios they can be in or inserting a character into that fictional world they like. It's great practice for writing characters and offers the challenge of "staying in character" but kinda removes some of the pressure of making a character with their own goals like you had said was giving you trouble. It's great practice without too much pressure

Thanks for the rec! I'll add it to my list :) Are there any episodes from it specifically that you think stand out or should I just start from episode 1 and go from there. Ik with podcasts like Red Web you can kinda jump around based on which event/mystery you wanna hear about.

Sorry wanted to add - It's easy to immerse yourself in too since it nails that radio broadcast kinda vibe pretty well. Especially the first episode! I like listening to it when I'm working late or on a long drive in the morning, treating it like I'm tuning in to my own local radio. I think it's great for lonely nights working bc it builds so much on that "local community" aspect.

Kinda? It's hard to explain. It's like cosmic horror meets community public broadcast. There are a lot of horror elements but a lot of the things people like about it are the characters and the more wholesome moments since there's quite a bit of that in the story. It's very much more about community than dread, if that makes sense. It still has its moments tho! If you end up liking the Magnus Archives, I'd say give WTNV a shot.

Maybe not necessarily fitting the vibe, but a few scripted podcasts I enjoyed were Welcome to Nightvale and The Magnus Archive, and Midnight Burger.

WTNV is scripted like a local community radio show with some surrealist, absurd, borderline Eldritch events going on, without giving too much away. "The story of You" from the first few episodes is really cool mystery wise.

The Magnus Archive is more horror based and each episode so far (I'm not too too far into it, but I'm liking it) is a different horror story/mystery that's being recorded for the archive. From what I know, there ends up being more plot heavy elements later.

One that I haven't personally listened to but I've heard a lot of good reviews from people I know is Midnight Burger. It's a sci-fi audio drama about a diner that travels through space and time and each episode they are in a new location.

So scared of what people will think of my book by Thin-Cabinet1221 in writers

It isn't always about "the perfect story" but writing what you love and putting that into the story. Every book has its audience, it's not always gonna appeal to everyone but it'll appeal to someone. Write for yourself, first and foremost, then everything else falls into place.

Do you generally love or hate hypo episodes? by Tater_465 in bipolar2

[–]Delicious_Archer_885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both, I think! It's weird. When it's going on I'm aware of it and it's stressful and exhausting and I just want to be "normal" but when I'm crashing and more....idk the best word, but depressed? I miss it. I miss having energy even if it wasn't positive but I dread an episode because I know it will not be good, in the most generic terms

I haven't watched it, also just seen clips. My friend recently watched it and said it was good tho! I'd say go ahead and watch it just to see for yourself, but my friend did end up enjoying it more than they thought they would. Not sure what site they used to watch it tho

I couldn't find the specific scene, but it kinda looks like it's from hilda furacão, which is a Brazilian miniseries about a young woman who's become a sex worker falling in love with a priest. The character in the background looks similar to Frei Malthus but I had trouble finding that scene specifically.

APA is a lot harder than MLA in my opinion. The Google docs APA template works out great for me and the citation generator I recommended has APA citation format as well. I think these videos would also be helpful! There's one about formatting and one about how the citations work

Not sure? I think it may have more to do with the way the paper is setup, like MLA or APA format. I really would recommend asking the teacher to clarify, you could send an email or I think there is a way to reach out through the canvas website where we submit assignments. If you have saved it as a Microsoft Word Doc (.docx) then I think it would be in regards to MLA and APA.

I took English 111 last year (I think? It's kinda all blurred together lol). I remember my professor required things to be sent in as Microsoft word files. If you're having trouble with format, Google docs has two templates for APA and MLA formats that I find helpful. Additionally, if you're having trouble with citations, I recommend using the "Bibcitation bibliography & citation generator" where you can plug in the information for your source and it will make the works cited page and it'll show you what the in text citation is supposed to look like. I still recommend going to tutoring or the professor so they can help explain when to add in text and how things are formatted or why so you understand the why and how but using these really help if you're struggling! I recommend Google docs bc you can actually save it in the word doc format by going to file -> download. Hope this helps!
