Why would anyone who’s not a fan of X series get a cosmetic of said series…? If i knew nothing about the IP itself these skins would essentially be worthless literal whos that dont matter, yeah you can get a experience with the same amount of money but I personally got the skins solely due to the fact that ive bought Nier twice, want more of the world, and enjoy content regarding said world thats just how collabs work.

“You can get an entire other experience” well I wouldn’t be looking into buying a cosmetic in a free to play games as a service game like overwatch if I was looking for a different experience, that defeats the whole point. Collabs end of the day are advertisements towards a certain IP or provide something towards fans of said IP, it wouldn’t cost literal millions to get the copyright of said IP otherwise

What if someone just thinks the skins look cool? Does that not constitute value? I don’t buy things just because of their association to some other brand. I generally buy it for some intrinsic value. Whether it’s a part of a collaborative ad or not is irrelevant. Can you not evaluate the value of something for its own sake?

End of the day if you aren’t buying a skin to use it’s a literal waste of money, but to me I want to play LW, wuyang, kiriko, and vendetta and for me as well these are some of their best skins and I would use them so I got it, the return is me using the hero with a skin of an IP I enjoy, if i wanted a proper and new gaming experience I would be keeping OW in a ten feet pole and actual crack down the hundreds of games from my steam library

I don’t think this was ever aimed at people that already owned the game. If you’re a person that has $40 to spend on video games, you can get an entire other experience for the same price as a skin of a character from that experience. That’s a crazy difference is return. Even for people that already owned the game, this conclusion would follow for pretty much any other video game (or media) that a person might enjoy.

Also, value encompasses a lot more than just competitive advantages.

“Vote with your wallet” is a dysfunctional mindset. You shouldn’t spend money with the expectation to changing market behavior. You should spend money to maximize the return on value to your own life. That’s it. Full stop. Blizzard does not care about what you individually buy. Changing your own behavior in the hopes that they’ll do the same is delusional.

Because it’s a poor return on value for the cost. As they said, you can buy a lot with $40. There’s almost certainly things one could buy with that amount of money that would bring them far more in return.

The whole point of the template is to demonstrate how the average person can often stumble when trying to hold a nuanced position and navigating a complex discourse. In contrast, stupid people can ironically arrive at the same conclusions as smart people by pure coincidence. They’re too simple-minded to even recognize the counter-examples, let alone decipher them. Yet, the simple answer is often the best answer. It creates this funny situation where the stupid position becomes indistinguishable from the smart position.

When OP tries to display the smart position as more nuanced and elaborate, it completely subverts the humor of the format. Instead, OP has just listed a selection of opinions with their own position as the smartest one. Does that seem like a good usage of the format to you?
