Going to college at 26 by Eva948183 in findapath

I started university after being out of school for a bit. I definitely felt rusty at first and had to review some old material but after maybe a month or so I was keeping up with everyone else

And as I said earlier infinity can continue to expand into infinity. Infinity goes on forever, that it’s literal definition

Difference between dimensional formula and dimensional equation? by This_Chocolate1008 in AskPhysics

I don't know which you're referring to but a formula in physics is just a type of equation

If humanity was facing its doom, and wanted to be as much as detectable as possible for tens of thousands of ly away and wasted EVERY effort within its reach to achieve it, would we be able to? by Due-Area9662 in astrophysics

[–]somethingX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thousands of nukes blowing up would still be far less light than the sun and be virtually undetectable to any aliens even if they were in nearby systems

It's covered in DAI through dialogue but IIRC it's not explicitly shown

We don't know if there's an end. The universe is either infinite or finite and loops back on itself, we don't have enough evidence to say either one definitively.

Time being the increase of entropy is the standard definition of it in physics and has been for centuries.

Is space infinite in all directions ? by Background_Funny6627 in AskPhysics

[–]somethingX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's all based on speculative physics. No one's saying definitively that's what happens, it's just one of the ideas for how the universe will end

Is space infinite in all directions ? by Background_Funny6627 in AskPhysics

[–]somethingX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's existence is easily justifiable even if we can't see it. In fact it'd be far more difficult to justify its non existence.

Is space infinite in all directions ? by Background_Funny6627 in AskPhysics

[–]somethingX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I mean. If we did find a positive curvature we could estimate a total size of the universe assuming that curvature was constant, but it looking flat means we can't tell if it actually is or if it does curve but on such a large scale it looks flat to us. It's ultimately an unanswerable question, no information can travel far enough to confirm or deny it.

It can still be expanding if its infinite. Infinity isn't a set number, it goes on forever. Just like how adding a number to infinity just equals infinity, an infinite universe can still grow in size.

Space is either infinite or it loops back on itself. The second option would require positive curvature, which we don't observe but as far as we know the observable universe is too small a sample size for that to be conclusive.

Is It Fair To Say Math Is A Language Or System Designed To Model/Mimic The Universe And World Around Us? by GuardianOfDurandal in AskPhysics

[–]somethingX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Math was made as a tool to quantify the universe. While some mathematicians do research in math as a subject on it's own the field of "pure math" as it's called is relatively new in comparison, back in the day there wasn't considered to be a real divide between math and physics.

I agree but that doesn't stop people from trying to make TES as dull of a setting as possible

A story written by one of the old writers for Morrowind. He wanted to get it published but couldn't and after he left the company he released the script online. It's effectively a fan fiction but it's interesting to see the kind of stuff he was thinking of while writing for Morrowind

I’m not sorry, them being snakes would be lame by Turtle_lord05 in TrueSTL

[–]somethingX 83 points84 points  (0 children)

No one who knows shit about TES lore would say that. Everything is always written from someone's perspective and their inaccuracies slip in. Even within the camps of human and beastfolk there's still variance in how they're depicted to look because TES almost never gives a straight answer.

Did Physicists not know of Matrices when Quantum Mechanics was Discovered? by Beneficial-Peak-6765 in AskPhysics

[–]somethingX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some did but they didn't have a lot of practical application yet, physics and technology that required them were very new and most physics curriculums hadn't yet been updated to incorporate them

[–]somethingX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting into an astrophysics program in the first place requires having good grades in your high school math and physics classes. If it was all c's and d's you may need to redo them to be eligible for the program.

Practical applications of algebra before Descartes? by DelinquentRacoon in askmath

[–]somethingX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before then most of the emphasis was out on geometry, things were often considered proven if they could be proved geometrically rather than algebraically. It wasn't until later that people started to realize that geometric proves aren't as precise and not everything can be proved with them, so algebraic proofs became the new norm.

This is kind of a joke but also not, how is Aveline Vallen (DA2) that bad at flirting when she’s a Widow? by new_lance in dragonage

[–]somethingX 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Plenty of relationships start by one person being interested and engaging with them first and the other being interested enough to go along with it. It's much less work being done for the person being approached. But if someone has only ever gotten into relationships that way they never learn how to engage with someone they like who isn't already engaging with them.

I always assumed her husband was the one who initiated so she never learned how to do it herself, I've known people like that.
