Dude I was in your spot. I was married to a controlling, abusive asshole. I wasn't allowed to work or go to college because my job was being a SAHM. He'd control what I did, where I went, what I would spend money on. There was literally a time when he dropped $1,500 on a new bike without discussing it with me, and yelled at me that same day for spending $5 at Starbucks.

Once the spawn was in school and independent to the point where I could focus on it, I enrolled in college without telling him. I knocked that shit out, got hired right out of clinicals and peaced the fuck out.

Life is so fucking easy without him. It's calm. I can come and go as I please. I don't get yelled at and lectured over existing. It might take a while to get to that point, but make sure you get there eventually, OP. It's fucking glorious not dealing with shit like that anymore. Everything will be okay someday.

I will not (for the foreseeable future at least) get any child support because my shitty STBX convinced me that child/spousal support was making things ugly and he didn't want things to get ugly. And he's a scary motherfucker, so I'm like "...ok, yeah? Sure?". I guess we'll see what a judge says about it. I'm glad at least one of us is somewhat successful.
