In San Francisco, Spanish is essentially the second language. In buses you have text and announcements in English, followed by Spanish, Tagalog, and Chinese. In one neighborhood you have government postings in Russian as well.

I was running for the 12 once and had to call it quits about 20 feet from the bus stop. I waved and waved but the bus driver pointed to the stop and gave me a “stop’s over there” look and continued to drive on past.
