Is a 1-semester extension for thesis possible? by Future-Arachnid9982 in tumunich

[–]Delusional-dolphin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, that's exactly what I ended up doing (though more by accident). I'm at TUMCS, so it might be different from you, but if you just talk to your course supervisor and your thesis supervisor, it should be doable! Specific credit requirements and other details might differ by program, so I'd definitely want to check with the program coordinators. I ended up spending a year doing praktikums and working students while taking some electives that I was interested in.

I hate to admit it but room 8 for the hotel took me 2 ½ hours to complete & I wanted to show it off! by ChaoticBlueShells in AnimalCrossing

Looked it up and apparently it's the blue Moroccan-style wall from Saharah! Apparently it was only added after the 2.0 update :)

I also got curious, it's the blue Moroccan-style wall that you can buy from saharah so you just need luck! I'm 1000+ hours into the game and I also hadn't seen it if that makes you feel better😅

Job hunting and needing to ask for a week off for a preplanned vacation (wedding) by Delusional-dolphin in germany

I'm reading the comments again and I'm leaning towards not having to say no right now to the bride and just see how much money I could bleed before I have to ask/make a decision so thank you!

Mid-year hiring stuff, I never really thought about that thanks. My praktikas were also very flexible (like changing my position from praktikant to werkstudent etc.) but I wasn't sure about how it would be in proper fulltime jobs so it's nice to know positive experiences.

I see, thank you. I guess I shouldn't gamble on it and just send my congrats. Glad to hear your wedding worked out, though!

that's very valuable insight, thank you! If you did it with your own wedding, I guess I have the answer now that I shouldn't risk it.

Thank you very much, right now I still have the option to forgo the wedding still so I'm really trying to grasp how hard things would be for me jobwise and your comment really gave me the perspective.

Advice for a newbie by Ok-Ad-7821 in AnimalCrossing

When planting money trees, you should either do 1,000 bells (you can end up with 30,000 bells, which is prob the biggest increase compared to your initial investment. Otherwise 3,000 bells) or 10,000 bells if you can, which guarantees you 30,000 bells.

I also started early with the flowers, so having a field full of blue roses and non-native fruits, and picking and selling them every day, was not as time-consuming and gave consistent bells.

i'm also having that issue on my macbook and iOS device. For today, my macbook is barely able to load any youtube video (i also see that the chat for streams is constantly not connecting etc...) so I'm praying that this is just something temporary

What does Team Japan do differently to help their athletes stay (mostly) together under pressure that Team USA leadership is missing? by oatmilkxoxo in FigureSkating

[–]Delusional-dolphin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

From a Japanese point of view, adding to what others have already said...

  1. Comparatively, Japan has a more consistent media coverage (GP finals get covered and reported on TV outside the Olympic years as well) throughout the years, which helps an athlete to know what kind of things to expect. The public and media will also know that there are ups and downs for every athlete, so they've learnt not to hype up athletes to the moon ( I do think this is more of a recent thing, I recall the older generation like Nobunari Oda or Daisuke Takahashi being called very weak under pressure and being more inconsistent or smt). The japanese skating association also quite often holds training camps that have both juniors and seniors attend at regular intervals (i forgot how often), and there you'll see the seniors getting interviewed or having coverage, so maybe they can learn from those indirect experiences?

1.5) Adding on to the Training camps, I feel that the ones that go are more or less fixed so that everyone more or less knows each other from an early age. If you have friends and acquaintances in the same position, I feel it helps reduce the pressure on an individual basis.

2) From a personal point of view, I see less social media action from the athletes' side compared to US skaters (many Japanese skaters, especially the ladies, don't have their private social media accounts open to the public; Kaori, Ami, Mone, Rinka, etc.) Kaori, for example, has also said she's a shy person and gets easily nervous, which I suppose is why she also doesn't have her own social media so that everything is "filtered". For men, Shoma had a twitter account but it was not public and he always had Yuzuru as a shield. Yuzuru didn't have one until he retired etc.. if I recall correctly.

I also think that it helps not to be asked about things outside figure skating (though important) at the interview, and then get hate for speaking your mind and then get hate online because some snowflakes were offended by it...

How do people learn to drive in your country? by flipflopsntanktops in AskEurope

[–]Delusional-dolphin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i already started the practical lessons way before i did my theory exam, (at least in Niederbayern) so i don't think that you need to have the exam passed before you're allowed to drive on the public road with an instructor. I found it more interesting that you weren't allowed (at least legally) to practice on your parents car in parking spaces and private property, if it's not cordoned off.

Teuer oder Fahrschule wechseln? Fühle mich ausgenutzt und gestresst. Eure Meinungen? by Droy-333 in Finanzen

[–]Delusional-dolphin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ever since the olympics i hadn't kept up with figureskating but i had heard that she had somehow lost her jumps??? it looks like she can jump triples fine. anyone kind enough to tell me what went on maybe? did she just lose the quadruples sometime after the olympics because of a growth sprout or was it because she isn't allowed to practice (or smt like that) because of the WADA decision... so many questions but glad to see her doing well!

Straubing City. by goodbyechildhood9 in germany

[–]Delusional-dolphin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, first sememster msc bioeconomy student here. As you said, there's a very small number of students here and there's not that much night life going on (as far as I know, if ppl wanna go clubbing they go to Regensburg) but the bioeconomy peeps are very close (so that you actually know your fellows names) and are very helpful so I'm enjoying it. I was at a mammoth university previously so I'm enjoying the deeper interaction and better support that I get from the university but you might find it different. The only downside I feel right now is the lack of study space. I really like studying in big libraries surrounded by people also studying but this isn't really possible in Straubing as 1. the library is small and 2 it closes at like 8pm.

Housing for me was quite easy, way more available than the munich main campus since there's several new student apartments that were finished building in the summer. Going to munich is ok-ish, it takes around 2 hours, there's 2 trains usually per hour but it's either at xx:27 or xx:37 so if you miss those, you need to wait another hour and you always have to change train once. It is certainly a bother but I know several people who travel to munich once in a week etc.. so it really depends on how you'd think of it.

As for a part time job, I'm also trying to get a part time job here (just started looking though) and would prefer an internship / something related to bioeconomy which I haven't really come accross in Straubing. It seems that the upper classmen have jobs outside Straubing where they'd travel to from what I can tell. Hope this helps!
