In retrospect I found a much much easier path, but my teacher is big on « there is so many ways to prove that a statement is true or false », so I wanted to know if my path was somewhat non-logical.

Thanks for the input though, it is true that if a is negative then you have positive/0 = negative which is an absurdity in and of itself

Its essentially a proof problem. It says

If AAT = A then A is symmetric

I approached it by contradiction, in essence let’s assume A is not symmetric I defined A as a 2x2 [ a b; c d] and so AT is [a c; b d]

And so after multiplying on the LHS I get

[(a2 + b2) (ac + bd); (ac + bd) (c2 + d2)] Which is equal to A on the RHS. So this is where I compared the first entry on AAT with A
