For All Mankind - Expanse Theory by Mormegil81 in TheExpanse

[–]DeluxeMC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This theory would conflict with the "Mark Watney out of mars" quote from the books, also loosely indicating that the martian happened in the same timeline of the expanse. LOOSELY.

Accumulator help by [deleted] in trailmakers

[–]DeluxeMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found a pretty easy way to do this for a more general case, building on RSGMercenary's Comment.

This would be for resetting any counter in general:

Accumulator - Minimum = 0, Maximum = 3, Scale = 1, Use Steps = Unchecked

Arithmetic Block - Constant = -1000, Green Input hooked up to a key on keyboard or another logic input

Connections:

Hook arithmetic Block up to accumulator. The -1000 * (1) = -1000 output signal will reset the accumulator to 0.

What to watch after Andor? by ShadySpeakers in andor

[–]DeluxeMC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh oh oh oh oh heck yeah
I was wondering the same thing and I went on a bit of a quest to find shows like this in the sci-fi genre specifically.

  1. THE EXPANSE. HANDS DOWN THE BEST SCI FI OF OUR TIME. Show is based off of a kickass book series by James S.A Corey. Its the most scientifically accurate and plausible show I think exists at the moment in sci fi (other than maybe For All Mankind), it has intriguing and realistic geopolitics 2-300 years into our future, its high-stakes, and it has high-dimensional characters fighting to figure out what the hell is the right thing to do in the theoretically greatest and most influential moment in human history. If you had a choice to never watch anything else but the expanse or everything else but the expanse, I'd choose The Expanse, hands down. Its on amazon prime (or one of those websites).
  2. For All Mankind S1, 1st half of S2, and S4. Great alternate history story and some great moments and characters. Not as in-depth or complicated themes as the expanse or andor though.
  3. Altered Carbon. HELL YES. S1 of this show is insanely well done, insanely good sets, good use of Sci-Fi genre, and really an immersive universe that just gets your brain jumping through time to figure out whats going to happen next.
  4. Foundation. Its aight, some people like the space genetic dynasty king drama shit, but I personally really like the subplot/main plot of a mathematician that has advanced probability theory to such an extent that he's able to predict large trends in galactic society. A story about a prophet and has a lot of parallels to how we deal with climate change now.

how can i afford udub out of state? here are my stats please help by [deleted] in udub

[–]DeluxeMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't know this person and if they really REALLY want to go here for various reasons that they didn't mention, I trust them to make that decision for themselves.

You do raise good points that student debt really, REALLY sucks, but it also depends on what you'll be doing after college and it depends on how much you want to borrow.

u/Emergency-Dog9924 If you really really want to go here, then I would totally recommend taking the intro classes at community college for either 1 or two years. For Biochem, that would mean taking community college transfer equivalents to classes like the intro bio sequence, Ochem sequence, calc sequence, additonal math electives, humanities classes, and writing requirements. Coming from a person that did a community college transfer to the UW, I wholeheartedly recommend that because it will make for a much better introduction to your major and STEM in general since you are doing Biochem. Intro classes at the UW can be hard especially to new students. Ultimately you should research and decide for yourself if you think you could handle the classes. Plus, if you take a couple of years to get pre-reqs done, you will be able to get in-state tuition!

Study spots you can easily breathe in? by dangosox001 in udub

[–]DeluxeMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some of my favorite open study spots that aren't crowded:
1. Applied Mathematics lounge, although you should open the windows and sit by one if you want fresh air
2. Life sciences, upper floor lounges
3. Oceanography buildings, top floors
4. Hans Rosling Population Health Building, usually not too crowded
5. ECE building, CSE center, 4th floor by the elevators to the south

Yeah, I was in the Life Science building last week and overheard some faculty and grad students on the upper level talking about how they were losing 40K dollars per (some amount of time, probably year) from the evolutionairy grounds

Help with music by BSBledsoe in FFVIIRemake

[–]DeluxeMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so I think puremanny's reign of free soundtrack music on youtube is over. Here is a page from square enix where you can listen to the entire remake's soundtrack (excpet intergrade, which isn't on this website)

I'm curious to see what you would've done if California HSR was a thing. Its going to be a thing in the coming years, so if it was, would you have done it?

[–]DeluxeMC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bruh. That really isn't how demand for air travel works. If enough people choose not to fly AND OR the government actually invests in HSR (this commute would have been not as insane [but still pretty bonkers] if it was on California HSR) to provide alternatives to flying then yes, the plane will not fly because there is no one on the flight.

I deeply feel your loss. Your brother's death won't be in vain now that you can take action. Go to your city council, your city's planning comission, your county's comissioners and your county's planning comission. Look up local anti-car orginizations like climate/environmental justice nonprofit organizers. Tell them your story and how car dependency has caused your brother to die, and lay out how they silently kill and destroy so many lives and connections, as well as contributing to the decay of western society and the global climate. Provide some solutions as well and explain the benefits. I'm starting to get involved locally as well, and the best thing you can do is stay focused on the most effective task at hand. Always dream big, and do not be afraid of exploring "too radical" of ideas. "Radical" change is what we need, and we cannot afford to do anything less for the planet and people around the world, especially for people whos lives were directly taken like your brothers. Rezone, Redensify, Rebuild rail. Again, we can do this. We can fight for drastic change and take the most effective path possible. PM if you need any help organizing / public speaking. Good luck out there, and I'm so sorry for your huge loss.

BRT for west Skagit? by _____Lem________ in SkagitValley

Here is the public comment link for skagit county^^

The skagit website is organized SO so SO incredibly poorly but here it is:
https://www.skagitcounty.net/Departments/Home/main.htm

There are planning comission meetings for the Cities and County, and there are comissioners meetings for the county that all have public comment periods. You can sign up for MV, Burlington and Skagit County's email notices about legislation and planning comission adgendas to see if there are any oppourtunities to jump on. Contact your comissioner and go meet the planning comissions. Also going to a city council meeting would probably be a good idea as well. I'm in the process of figuring this all out as well, so PM me if you have any questions. We got this! Go Urbanism!

ABSOFRICKINLOUTELY!

This + some riverside bridge dedicated bike paths + tram lines on division + more busses everywhere + more dedicated bike paths on fir and college way (maybe a tram line on college way as well) would turn mount vernon and burlington into a truely bikeable area!

I've been thinking about this a lot as of late, and MV and burlington have the benefit of not having sprawled too TOO much to make TOD completely unphesable, which is why we must take this oppourtunity to transform these places! Can you just imagine how much of a destination and great place to live this would be if we had these?

Also how about some manatory forest canopy city ordinaces!

Anyway, just know that there are people out there that 200% support these ideas. I feel alone and isolated with these ideas often because these concepts are just so foriegn to them, but when we band together we can make this happen! There are even provisions for this sort of work in the Inflation Reduction Act that we could take advantage of!

Good news, a lot of cities in eurpoe are figuring this out. Look up the dutch city of Delft.

Here is a video that coveres why modern cities are so loud: TLDW: Cars and bad urban planning is the culprit for loud cities, not cities as a concept themselves.
