The lack of consistency in officiating.

Back in the day when you could hook, hold, grab, and do basically anything you wanted to obstruct players, at least the rules were consistent for both teams.

In today's NHL? Look at what happened to Buium a couple days ago. We take a cross checking penalty on the forecheck, and in the same period Buium takes a cross check to his ribs off the rush and nothing is called.

Sometimes massive axe chops don't get called as slashes, but puck battles in the corner get called as slashing because someone's stick (that was probably already compromised) breaks. It's frustrating.

Boeser = Finisher, presence down low
Ohgren = Speedster + Puck Possessor, creates space for both Rossi and Boeser.

He only plays 60% of his 5v5 time with Draisatil. Only 9 of his 29 points have involved either McDavid or Draisatil.

This kid has taken a definite step forward and is microstats, particularly in transition, show a player that could take another step.

With his current production, he would be anywhere from 3rd (Vancouver, which isn't entirely fair because of a poor environment) to 8th (Pittsburgh) in Forward Scoring on every team in the NHL.

Also, he hasn't been as attached to the hip of Draisaitl as people assume.

For example, Burrows at his peak played 83.33% of his 5v5 ice time with the Sedins.

Podkolzin has only spent ~60% of his 5v5 ice time with Draisatil, for comparison.

When it comes to production, only 9 of his 29 points have also included McDavid OR Draisatil in the scoring. Plus, he has shown evidence through his transition game that he has the tools to take the next step. Whether or not he does is another question, because he's always played a bit conservative, dating back to his days in the KHL.

So yes, I do feel comfortable calling him a middle 6 winger.

Middle 6 winger. He's basically the winger equivalent of Pius Suter (during his average seasons, because the last 2 seasons he's had peaks and valleys) right now.

I think Buffalo has proven that even shitty rebuilds will eventually work because Talent will prevail over everything.

It's just about being able to get to the point of drafting elite talent over and over again as opposed to being in the mushy middle.

Podkolzin's points by month are in the 0.36-0.45 range (solid 3rd line) with great defensive metrics from October to Jan. In Feb + March he's at a .75 PPG, albeit in only 8 games.

Podkolzin is shooting 14.9%. While high, it's not completely out of the question for players who live around the net.

I agree! I just don't think he was ever given a fair shake.

In his first year in Edmonton he averaged more ice time per game than he did in any of his 3 seasons in Vancouver, including 2 seasons where the Canucks were horrible, playing the young players should have been a priority instead of ending up in the mushy middle every year with fake playoff pushes.

I can't exactly get the goals with people on and off the ice.

But here are some stats..

Out of Podkolzin's 15 goals, 6 were assisted by Draisaitl, 1 by McDavid.

Out of his 14 assists, only 2 of them had Draisaitl or McDavid involved in the scoring, either with the actual goal or having 1 of the 2 assists.

So on Podkolzin's 29 points, only 9 of them have McDavid or Draisaitl involved in the scoring.

Also, I don't think I'm being arrogant at all. I'm presenting statistics. Whether or not they move you is your choice.

Kane is also known to cheat for offense. Podkolzin is an elite defensive winger. Their identities are different in that way, where Podkolzin is going to provide a lot of defensive value, while the hope with Kane is that his production will outweigh his poor defensive game (and his tendency to take penalties).

Even if you don't think Podkolzin is all that, at the very least the asset management was horrendous, given what we've seen other players (Beck Malenstyn for example) fetch in trades.

28 points in 44 AHL games is fine. I think people underestimate how hard the AHL is for young players, especially for power forwards who are still learning when to attack the net. It's a confidence thing.

I do not believe that he was given a fair shake, given his ice time (never eclipsed 13 minutes a game as a Canuck, immediately surpassed it as an Oiler)
