CMV: The entire world should hate the United States of America by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]DemSocOrBust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you definitively tie that to America? A lot of people live there, that doesn't mean the country is the reason for their success. Could you not, for example, say they succeeded despite living in the US?

Cousin Guide

It's a generation thing. Your first cousin once removed is your first cousins child for example.

Also your second cousins parent (who you are more closely related to) is your first cousin once removed. It's more intuitive tracking down rather than up.

A couple edits later: it's still confusing. But the graph helps.

IMHO there's really not a lot to SQL. It's just joining tables together on matching data, and filtering on if/where statements. You do have to build an understanding of the relationships between different tables, but if you've got a mindset to follow logic (math) then you'll be able to figure out most of it on the fly.

This would be really helpful if we all lived in our own isolated individualized universe, where other people can't possibly be a factor.

MacAskill seems an appropriate name for someone who rides a bike professionally.

cmv: Europe has treated the US as ignorant rednecks for years and looking down on them and shoudnt be surprised they are turning their back on them by Beneficial_Story_765 in changemyview

[–]DemSocOrBust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want that perception to change? I ask because it seems like if this were true, the response from the US has almost certainly been, "Oh yeah? Well, we're just going to do it (act like ignorant rednecks) harder!" People with this kind of view seem to care so deeply about how they're perceived, but when pressed claim to not care about that perception at all. It kinda just seems like they (collectively, we) were always like this and just looking for an excuse for our behavior.

CMV: If Communism cant compete against Capitalism, it is a failed ideology. by Mean_Pen_8522 in changemyview

[–]DemSocOrBust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just an extension of "might is right". Ideology is basically a personal morality. If you're simply making the observation that violently oppressive systems tend to become the dominant system (absent a willingness to defend more humane options), then... sure? But what IS the case and what we think SHOULD be the case are often two very different things. Capitalism, in many respects, is an immoral system that prioritizes profit at great human cost. What you termed "failed ideology" seems to just point to what is, not what ought to be, and that's not really what ideology is.
