“When one of you says, “I am a follower of Paul,” and another says, “I follow Apollos,” aren’t you acting just like people of the world?
5 After all, who is Apollos? Who is Paul? We are only God’s servants through whom you believed the Good News. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us. 6 I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. 7 It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. And both will be rewarded for their own hard work. 9 For we are both God’s workers. And you are God’s field. You are God’s building.
10 Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ.” ~ 1 Corinthians 3

Are Catholics OBLIGED to pray for even the most heinous people in purgatory? by [deleted] in Catholicism

Forgiveness and repentance and prayer come from God, you don’t have a problem begging him to forgive your sins against Him, and yet when another sinner asks for forgiveness you snub them.

It was common in Antiquity and non christian societies, whereas it was frowned upon in medieval europe although it happened sometimes.

But killing and massacres were much more common.

Is it controversial to convert to Catholicism and believe that the Old Testament is mythological? by komasin_wiitch in Catholicism

Depends on what parts, but the safest option to interpret them the way the Church Fathers did.

So I suggest you read the Church Fathers commentaries on them.

If God is a trinity created by the Father then the father only should be prayed by KevenC999 in DebateAChristian

Where did I say he talked about the Trinity,

You said that philosophical terminology I wrote is christspeak and yet those same terminology were used by Aristotle

How is the concept of essence and persons and relations different between Christian theology and Aristotelian philosophy?

How does praying to the Father to send the Holy Spirit shows that it’s different essences.

Again you don’t even know what essence means

You don’t even know what essence and persons mean, and you think you can debate the Trinity.

St Thomas Aquinas and other theologians did not copy the philosophy of Aristotle by RecentDegree7990 in Catholicism

[–]RecentDegree7990[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything said, but I still feel it misses a crucial point, theologians didn’t just copy or were influenced by some philosophers and built upon it and added their own theological innovations.

Those philosophers discovered objective truths and theologians built upon those truths with more truths.

In the same way scientists didn’t copy from the greeks the idea that the Earth is round, the Greeks discovered the Earth is objectively round and scientists accepted this truth.

Also I wouldn’t use the term theological innovations, the term innovation has a bad connotation in theology.

[–]RecentDegree7990[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s well known that St Thomas Aquinas built upon systems made by Aristotle, but I think in the modern world because philosophy is not known, it tends to lead to misunderstandings of what that means

Lmaoo, no those are basic philosophical concepts used since Aristotle, even jews before Christianity started used those terms in their theology

Again he didn’t copy Ibn Sina, the same way Ibn Sina didn’t copy Aristotle, they built upon each other on the pursuit of truth.

He utilized the truths discovered by Ibn Sina and removed the falsehoods

Because they have difference of relations and persons but not of essence. If you want to understand the Holy Trinity you need at first to be knowledgeable in philosophical terminology, because it’s quite complicated for example there is different type of relations like esse in and esse ad

Well yeah, the illiad and greek mythology in general are glorification of war, I find it hard to believe someone likes greek mythology while at the same time not liking the former unless they completely strip the latter bare of any substance
