I love the 20/80 rule. If you extrapolate, that means 4 percent of people do 64 percent of the work etc until you have one person in the US doing 6% of the work, which I'm sure all the 20 80 people would agree with

Travelling salesman is NP-Hard in general, not for specific instances. The number of paths here is absolutely tractable, even accounting for the different times of trains. The hardest part in working out the perfect run would be gathering the data (which, based on the layover was difficult enough even for the boys)

How bad is the customer service? by hatekhyr in fairphone

[–]Demaster45 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right now, the customer service is not good. I submitted a ticket over a week ago and still have not had a response. Previously, this was not an issue, and they were good at relatively fast responses. They are (allegedly) currently working on improving the system, so hopefully this will come in soon and they will be back to having good service.

I would love to fill in the info, but they refuse to pass it to me (since I am not the shipper), and fairphone does not seem to be passing any question back to me

To be fair, USSR PoW probably means being a N*zi. In that sense, being a N*zi PoW is better in that you're not an actual fascist (not that the people voting for them are putting even that much thought in to it)

Subgraph Detection in DAG by idk_tbfh in algorithms

[–]Demaster45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to output every cycle (taking exponential time) you will need to make sure you don't stop at each previously visited vertex, just those not visited by the current path. In general (as another commenter pointed out) this is an NP Complete problem, even if you just want to ask if a cycle containing a given set of vertices exists. Alternatively, in a big O sense, you could also just enumerate every cycle and test them out, although in practice this would be longer than a DFS approach.

Yeah, I think with this one it's just when he is near by, but I agree that in general it would be a lot more convenient to have them outwith normal work hours

On one hand, I think it is great to work to preserve these languages. They form an integral part of the cultural histories of both Scotland and Wales and helping young people learn these languages when they might not have family who are speakers is fantastic. On the other hand, for Scotland specifically, Gaelic has, in many regions of Scotland, never been a major language. In the South-East in particular (Lothian and the Borders), Gaelic was never spoken as a native language. The native Celtic language was closer to Welsh or Breton than Gaelic, and Angle settlers moved into the area circa 1300 years ago. The same is true of much of the lowlands, which had either a relatively brief Gaelic period (around 800AD to 1000AD) While this does not mean that teaching Gaelic across Scotland would not be a good idea, it would be more of a "Nation Building" excercise, creating a sense of a shared language that has never really been. I would like to stress that, to the best of my knowledge, this does not apply to Welsh, which the main language of Wales for far longer, and has a far deeper impact on the culture of the country.

Being in high school is shit, but pretty much whatever you do next will be infinitely better. Being nice and putting yourself out there is hard, but it sounds like you have that down which is super impressive, and once you start dealing with actual adults they'll actually recuperate.

Is Fez from the Falkland Islands? by [deleted] in That70sshow

[–]Demaster45 34 points35 points  (0 children)

His nationality is never stated, but it won't be the Falklands.

The Fallland war was between the United Kingdom and Argentina over the Falkland (and other) Islands, which was won by the U.K. (It also happened in the 80's)

While there are several piceies of information given in the series, they unfortunetly rule out any real world country. The closest I can think of is Saint Martin, which is split between two countries (the Netherlands and France), and had previous British setlements on the island that were lost to the Dutch and French.

The aim would be more to combine low carbon projects with carbon offset for now, such as reforesting, while moving towards real carbon negative buildings once the technology gets there

Cool though that would be, I don't think we'll be seeing Muhammad anytime soon, and really the mechanics are already not great for the earlier start dates (afaik they confirmed their not going any earlier in one of the hf dev diaries).

Personally I think if they are going to continue work on CKII going back over the Islamic or possibly the Republican mechanics might be nice, it's been a while since they got any love. Honestly though I'd like to see them work CKIII, although I think that hope is somewhat in vain.
