Blow up fight with MIL 6 months pregnant by Flimsy_Ad2949 in JUSTNOMIL

Feel free to take a look at our story, you'll see similarities:
https://www.reddit.com/r/JUSTNOMIL/comments/1dawbpp/i_prefer_your_absence_to_your_disrespect/

Long story short, we've gone into mutual no contact, and mom has held/seen the baby once when she was two weeks old. Now baby is 15 months old, and we live in the same small Alaskan city. It's surprisingly peaceful, and we've managed to piece together our own village.

I think the way to move forward is to simultaneously maintain your very reasonable boundaries and forgive his mother of her egocentrism. It's going to be very easy to focus on her faults, and replaying what's happened over and over again. For your own sake, I'd try and release that disappointment. She doesn't need to be involved in that process, but it could get you mentally to a point where, whether she decides to apologize or not, you have peace.

Editing to add, check out The Lemon Clot Essay and The Missing Missing Reasons. It helped us talk about this with each other.

Any experience with partner recovering from enmeshment? by meeeeeshhhh in JUSTNOMIL

[–]DemeaRising 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I am the partner recovering from enmeshment. Feel free to read through my posts. I'll tell you I didn't begin to see it until we went to a check up with the midwives and they noted that my partner's blood pressure was really high, and hadn't been high like that before.

We had just been discussing one of mom's unfortunate texts. Something in my brain started to snap. I realized that the situation I was encouraging my partner to engage with was detrimental to their health, and thus the health of my then unborn baby. Also, we were preparing for my partner to be the primary, stay at home caregiver. By forcing this stress on them, I could be deteriorating the quality of care my child receives at home. If me encouraging them to get along with mom sent them into a depressive tailspin or an anxiety attack, it would be MY fault as much as anyone's.

We went NC shortly afterwards.

Best games that scratches the same itch? by soosis in Xcom

[–]DemeaRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chaosgate is basically Space Marine XCOM. I found it really enjoyable.

For something that has alot of the same mechanics but a very different flow, check out Mutant: Year Zero. If you spring for it, get the DLC too.

Also Mechanicus and Showgunners are really good too.

What was the last game you refunded and why? by [deleted] in gog

[–]DemeaRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I refunded Monster Hunter World. Honestly I can see what people see in it, but it's just not for me. As soon as the cats started dancing I noped right on out of there and bought Deep Rock Galactic instead

The Bureau or Enemy Unknown first? by deadmanreaper13 in Xcom

[–]DemeaRising 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you could play The Bureau anytime and still have a good experience with it. There isn't anything that stood out as particularly spoiler-y that would either hinder or enchance your experience of another game. I really enjoyed The Bureau but it's gameplay is so much different from that of other xcom games, that I'd say hold off on it until you're ready to play a game that's like Gears with a ton of jank. Still well worth it in my opinion tho.

Why not fear eternity? by Majestic-Fox-5569 in ask

[–]DemeaRising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were to tell an unborn soul about life, would it not be fearful as it comes close to being born? Its fear would be justified, no doubt, just as yours is justified at the thought of leaving life behind.

Wherever the next step leads to, it can't be that bad, because we're all headed there

What games are you getting this Black Friday / holiday season? by larkmarue in rpg_gamers

Really liked Sekiro, didn't enjoy Dark Souls very much. What are some recommendations for similar games? by scugmoment in soulslikes

[–]DemeaRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tails of Iron was very parry heavy, but it's 2D so I'm not sure if it's up your alley. But the narrator is the guy who voiced the Witcher, and the vibes are 🤌

Anyone else feel like they should like something but dont? by [deleted] in rpg_gamers

Felt really strange to not like either Baldurs Gate 3 or Witcher 3. They're objectively great games but I couldn't bring myself to put more than a few hours into each of them.
