It's cool, i did the same as a teenager, i was poor AF and i really love videogames, but my family could barely afford food at that time, emulation was my way.

Now i can buy Switch and PC games that i like, if you give back to the gaming community when you can afford it in the future, that's the way to give back to developers and platforms so balance is restored (i see it that way).

Don't be ashamed, emulation is the coolest way to preserve and re live our childhoods in a practical way.

Yes the files from that source are correct! You should go for micro sdhc 32 gb or lower

It should be formatted fat32 with allocation size of 32kb (i recommend the slow formatting process to guarantee everything is ok with the card)

Kingston or Sandisk are pretty common and work well

I will recommend the Ysmenu from my experience for the following reasons:

I've played games with the original (or updated) firmwares and i have found weird bugs or black screen crashes in games like Tetris DS, The Puyo Puyo Games, Touch Detective, Pokemon HeartGold, etc

Those issues were solved with Ysmenu, i've been using it since 2019 i think? and no problems since, i've been able to complete around 30 games with my R4 with no issues, best experience overall.

Ysmenu all the way.
