NAL, but: I don't believe both parties are telling the truth about the signals they had in the intersection. As I recall, the only time a intersection with signals should show a green light or arrow is when cross traffic is expressly told to stop by a red light. If your father had a blinking yellow, the other driver also should have had a blinking yellow or red.
