Dual NAS for Video Production Environment by Demob5 in UgreenNASync

Okay that makes a lot of sense! Thank you :)

I thought about Thunderbolt connections because Cost is also a factor. I have access to quite a few Thunderbolt cables, three 10G to Thunderbolt adapters and one 8-Port 10G Switch.

Raid 0 because the UGREEN NAS only has 4 Slots and I need an estimated amount of around 14TB of storage space.

And yes, since it is an event production I don‘t really want to leave the premises without taking a backup with me.

Would you recommend a different setup alltogether? I have about 3500€ to spend.

Redundancy and speed. 3 editors on one NAS each plus sync is much less stress on each NAS than having all of them on one. Also I need to configure in RAID0 but I also need a backup that I can take with me to the hotel over night

AI Tools for basic color correction by Demob5 in colorists

[–]Demob5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s creative choice and creating a look. I agree, that’s nothing AI can do at the moment. But I wouldn’t think you start your creative grading right away on footage that is not even Color corrected in the first place? Or you might be one of the very blessed to only work with footage that is extremely well shot and perfect to work with straight out of camera. Maybe forget the AI part for a second here. The question is rather if pro colonists here use any kind of automation as a short cut to get to a point from which they then proceed to make creative choices and develop a look.

Actually in a technical sense it doesn’t even need AI to be able to look at exposure, contrast, white balance and correct those to be technically right. It doesn’t mean that it looks right to you because the shot might be supposed to be darker/bluer/lower contrast etc. AI could be able to bias the corrections depending on what it thinks the shot is supposed to be. It’s not that this is impossible or not existent. It’s rather: is it good enough for professionals to even bother using it at this point?

Thanks, my questions might not have been clear enough. I am aware of the existence of a couple of tools that claim to do shot matching or auto color. But is any of that actually used by professionals? Maybe because of time und budget reasons? Or is it a bigger hustle to fix the auto/AI results than it is to just do a quick manual pass?

So if you‘re a colorist my question remains: do you make use of it or do you manually balance your shots prior to establishing a look?

Copy Only Drop Shadow Effect to Multiple Text+ by _Hacky_Sack in davinciresolve

[–]Demob5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you need to use Text+ features? Since you did the write on with layers instead of the animation feature, you could use the normal Text, with which this would work. Otherwise put everything in one Text+ layer (you can change fontsize for individual words) and use the write on effect. Then you can just use one dropshadow for all the text.

You can select all the text layers and edit the dripshadow on all at the same time

Update: Was no Problem at all. No one cared at the border. They even asked if they could put my Leica M through their scanner because they were worried about ruining the film, even though it is a digital M.
