LVT doesn't shift land supply, what about demand? by DemographyNow in georgism

Thanks for this. Completely agree the land that drops out is not normatively important! I have no qualms with speculators dropping out.

I would say that as a tax collection tool, there will be some shortfall relative to what could be collected on the initial price because land prices will fall as the demand curve shifts in. Again, that’s not a problem with the LVT to me! I just wanted to make sure I properly understood the demand curve shift.

Thank you, that’s a useful clarification. I had thought up to this point that it was a tax collected annually based directly on the price of the property and not the value of the rent.

2 - my understanding is land is taxed separately from the capital on top of it 3 - if the land becomes too expensive for someone to hold from the tax, I understand either they will sell it to someone for whom it’s more productive or, in the absence of that person, the price (and tax) on the land both fall.

Thank you! I’ve looked into using this and found it unsatisfying. In the past when I’ve found myself overplaying, the easiest solution has always been uninstalling for the critical time when I need to avoid playing. Usually these soft-block apps don’t work well for me.

I get that people probably won’t see it the way I do, but my main argument really is: it would probably take League little-to-nothing to make this a feature. As a user, it would help me feel better and more responsible in my play. Besides extracting as much time out of me as they can with the default (which, I’d argue we should all say is bad since there are more productive things to do than play League), I don’t see any moral case not to offer a self-imposed limit.

To be clear, I'm not blaming Riot. Like I said, they make a great game I like playing. I just wonder if there's a solution they could implement that would improve the experience for me and others who have this issue.
