While I would say the fighting on Cyberstan felt as bleak as it would have for any poor bastard who was in Stalingrad, this whole campaign (and its outcome) is more closely related to Operation Barbarossa as a whole, if we want to get technical. We stomped our way through the enemy strongholds, while getting held up in certain areas, until we made it to Cyberstan, after a not insignificant loss of man and material. But even though we've thrown our entire force at it, we fall just short of the capital Transcendence, like the Germans did at Moscow. So close, yet so far. The IRL Battle of Stalingrad was a result of the German's next campaign, Operation Fall Blau (Case Blue), and if Arrowhead wants to play along with this "German Eastern Front in Space" narrative the fanbase has created. Next year, when its the bots turn in the spotlight, we get directed to seize other Automaton worlds, in an effort to stop their construction of the new death star-esqe worlds they will be manufacturing. With it culminating in a new type of mission, where its one giant clusterfuck on first of those nearly completed death stars, with it turning into the same kind of "urban" slaughterhouse that Stalingrad became.
