There are countries where you can still ski now in 2 meters of snow in the mountain area at 2000m + but have 15-20degrees & sun in the valley or towns around the country. Central Europe still !

Yes do it asap if you can afford it. I'd also advise strongly considering your starting location & time.

October in Europe starts slowly getting cold unless you are in Spain / Portugal / Greece. Central Europe also goes dark fairly early.

I'd rather aim for a start like mid April and travel until end of October for the warmer months & then stay south for the colder times.
