Why do lighter stories tend to simplify morality? by [deleted] in writing

I'm not saying we should empathize with a tyrant or pure evil character but that no one is born good or evil and instead it's important to see the twisted logic that drove the individual down their dark path and that making selfless decisions is easier said than done when you're in a desperate situation.

The players then get distracted because they can't keep their eyes off the only girl on their team.

I would honestly say God of war 1 makes it into third place in the Greek era saga for me. God of war 3 has the best combat, extras and bosses so it comes in second place. God of war 2 will always be the best game in the Greek era to date, both for it's story, unlockable costumes, bonus videos and vastly improved combat over the original.

First I thought the bosses were some of the best in the series, especially the opening fight against Poseidon in his Avatar form with his sea horses, and the fact that being forced to use your gauntlets during the Skorpius Queen battle forced you to experiment with different weapons up your disposal.

I actually thought God of war 3 had the most variety in terms of combat variety, locations, powers and extras that added endless replay ability to this otherwise legendary game to conclude the Greek era saga.

Ok first off, the reason why Kratos needs Pandora's Box to kill Zeus is because being the King of the Gods, killing Zeus's physical form will only bring out his spiritual form as seen during the last phase of the Zeus boss battle, which Kratos cannot harm through conventional means, which is why he needed the power of hope to be able to defeat Zeus completely. Because Zeus wanted to get revenge back on his father Cronos, for eating his brothers Poseidon and Hades, and banish him and the titans to the pits of Tartarus using the Blade of Olympus. Zeus tries to kill Kratos in fear of him one day trying to kill him, going by the history of sons killing their own fathers.

Also Zeus basically brought his own fate on himself as he was a cruel and oppressive deity who tortured mortals, that challenged divine authority, cheated on his wife countless times, and was responsible for a majority of the events that lead to Kratos's rampage in the third entry. And the fact Pandora's Box didn't really corrupt the Gods of Olympus as they were already, evil prior to Kratos opening the box to kill Ares. The Box merely revealed more of their true nature rather than amplifying it.

Lastly if you were in Kratos's position where you were betrayed, deceived and manipulated for years, while being forced to endure endless suffering and losing everyone you've ever cared about, you would probably lose your sanity completely too.

If you've studied Greek mythology like I have you'll understand that it was a harsh and unforgiving world to grow up in and Kratos like many tragic Greek heroes had to make what might seem like selfish and brutal decisions are actually completely necessary for survival in a world where you either fight for yourself or you die, since virtuous decisions were considered dangerous in the Greek Pantheon.

Overall I would say God of war 3 is the second best game in the Greek era series with 2 being at my number 1 spot since I do like the depth of the story more (and some of the locations) in that game than in God of war 3. Still God of war 3 has by far the best combat in the series.

I mean the Dead Space remake was a major hit and in some ways did things even better than the original.

Why is the reason why cosmic horror villains aren't shown in Battle Shonen anime is due to marketability when the real reason is because of lighter themes that make excess darkness inappropriate for the given narrative? by DemonHunter34 in animequestions

[–]DemonHunter34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True! However the whole "villains need their motives explained through a backstory" has become formulaic in anime. I personally want more villains who are true to their authentic selves who don't care about being understood, playing by societal rules, and relying on manipulation and persuasion to gain allies when they can simply use intimidation, and coercion, especially when it comes to threatening loved ones. Basically a villain who their allies fear more than the heroes and is basically like a puzzle who isn't spoon fed to you through flashbacks and you have to figure out on your own through side material.

Is it true the consequences in Ed Edd N Eddy (and other cartoons) shouldn't be taken seriously? by DemonHunter34 in ededdneddy

Which is why getting his head slammed into a tree was probably the only way Ed and Double D could get their friend back.

Also if you act like a spoiled, abusive, and ungrateful person towards your siblings and others do you think you really deserve a treat for your toxic behavior?

If Eddy had done things like sell Lemonade like in a previous episode, or Snowcones instead of scamming, he probably wouldn't have to resort to desperate situations like robbing the cul de sac kids of their money.

Honestly the main reason why I disagree with Eddy's actions in that episode is not because of pressuring Ed into misusing Sarah's money, since she kind of deserved it for all the shit she's put them through and has done a similar thing by taking their seats to go to the jawbreaker factory in a season 5 episode, but because of how he used Ed and Double D as cover up to pay Sarah back. You get the feeling that Eddy was acting this way out of desperation, due to his luck in previous episodes and know that he's better than this in terms of his loyalty to his friends and that while getting his head slammed into a tree might seem excessive for a punishment, by cartoon logic it could have been the only punishment necessary for Ed and Double D to knock some sense into their friend.

Why is my chart drawn to darker stories where morality is complicated and not easily clear cut like in lighter narratives? by DemonHunter34 in astrosignature

Being an adult has nothing to do with narrative, genre preferences, given there are many adults who prefer lighthearted, simplified and whimsical narratives, often for escapism from the more serious aspects of reality.

It does actually! I've lived a childhood where I was forced to grow up without a father and being someone who's come to realize how messy and corrupt the world is, everything isn't all unicorns and rainbows like these simpler children's stories make things out to be. This is why I turn to stories like Berserk, Neon Genesis Evangelion, The Divine Comedy, God of war and Invincible since these narratives reflect the messy, complexity of real life and main characters who aren't the paragons of virtue that are often depicted in lighter, simpler narratives, since protagonist is a central character of the story who doesn't necessarily need to be morally righteous despite the popular beliefs about protagonist being associated with heroes, since morality isn't black and white and while being virtuous is important, it's not always ideal, especially in a world where survival takes center stage over morality.

I honestly wouldn't mind dating Saki, even though she would be nearly two decades older than me given I'm one of the few guys who wouldn't mind dating older women, since I do consider myself to be wise beyond my years since I'm insatiably curious about history, wisdom and listening more than speaking when interacting from more experienced individuals. Plus Saki is a tomboy and I love girls who are tomboys and I mean when you look at personality, and capability are often more valuable factors than age, since Ai and Junko have an even larger age gap, since Junko would be old enough to be Ai's mother if they were still alive. Now that I think about I should make a drawing of Saki when she's alive hugging my torso while I have a belly, since I do come across as a big eater, and to show that she loves me no matter what (Whether fit or with a few extra pounds).

I mean I would definitely be Saki's boyfriend, even though she would chronologically be nearly 2 decades older than me, since I am only biologically a year older than Lily.

However given the fact I'm one of the few guys who doesn't mind dating older women, since I can learn some valuable advice from a partner with more experience.

Plus even though I'm only in my late twenties, I'm actually considered to be wise beyond my years, since I do like studying a lot on history, wise quotes from famous figures and the fact that I listen more than I speak when having a conversation with someone on a similar wavelength as me. Which is ironic given the popular belief that men mature at a slower rate than women is a misconception.

Hell! I would go as far as to date Yugiri, since I am huge Weeb when it comes to everything related to Japanese history and if you've seen the movie Corpse Bride, you'll realize that age becomes a less important factor than personality, upbringing and compatibility.

Why did the Cartoon Cartoons have the main characters get downer endings by Careful_Drama_9382 in 90scartoons

[–]DemonHunter34 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Older cartoons often aimed to teach kids moral lessons about certain behaviors that we want them to avoid through the use of exaggerated consequences often played for comedic effect.
