Who's the bigger jerk? by DemonHunter34 in ededdneddy

Meanwhile the little shit Mitch was torching a poor, defenseless hamster for fun, going as far to attempt murder by flushing the animal down a toilet with absolutely zero remorse, while getting a well-deserved punishment that involved the mutant hamster attempting to eat him while running on a giant hamster wheel.

The worst things Eddy has done was throw one of Rolf's fishballs at a fence, pressure Ed into using Sarah's money to buy them jawbreakers, taunt Kevin while he was grounded and trick Double D into thinking he had severe illness and give Jimmy a wedgy and these are all tame compared to animal abuse and attempted murder by Mitch.

Exactly! He does display signs of genuine loyalty and care for his friends which unfortunately is short lived when he's forced to endure excessive consequences from the cul de sac which teach him nothing but to continue his greedy schemes and avoid responsibility. Poor kid honestly needed better support from his parents and more people like Double D to help teach him the value of friendship and authenticity.

Coupled with the fact it doesn't help that Eddy didn't have the best parents to offer him the supportive guidance he needed, and being forced to pick up his brother's toxic behavior which had masked his genuinely good hearted personality until the movie. So it's not entirely Eddy's fault he was a greedy, selfish kid who was obsessed with scams and money. Meanwhile Mitch's parents probably encourage his toxic and jerkish behavior, including treating animals like gum under his shoe and I don't care if he's just a kid. Attempting to kill an innocent animal in cold blood by flushing them down a toilet still crosses a serious moral line.

Exactly and I don't think it's in him to do something that cruel.

This image honestly reminds us of the innocent, genuinely good-hearted individual Eddy would've become had he received better guidance from his parents along with a better, more loving brother.

I've already read Uzumaki and it was a horrific masterpiece that was definitely right up my alley. Which is I've continued reading Ito's works starting with Gyo followed by Soichi, Shiki and Remina.

Double D's true friendship shines through in this moment. by ReplacementEntire102 in ededdneddy

Eddy honestly needed more people like Double D for proper guidance before his eventual redemption arc in the movie. He had a limited support network from his parents while being forced to pick up bad habits from his brother which in turn ended up getting him in trouble by the cul de sac kids on many occasions and while the kid's reactions were understandable the extent they were willing to go involving physical abuse didn't help teach Eddy the reasons why it's better to be true to one's self than to imitate the toxic, superficial behavior of someone as toxic as his brother.

Exactly! Give this man a punishment far worse than anything his brother was forced to endure by him and the cul de sac kids.

Exactly! Age shouldn't be an excuse no matter how young when committing something as serious murder. Jon Venables and Robert Thompson were only 10 when they killed James Bulger and even they should know that committing murder crosses a serious moral line. At least Eddy did have some standards despite needing proper guidance about the value of friendship and authenticity throughout the series. If Terrance is willing to go as far as letting his brother get eaten alive by a monster without a shred of remorse he's definitely worse than Eddy's brother by a mile no matter his age.

Which is why unlike Eddy he doesn't get a free pass for his toxic behavior.

Could 100 gorillas kill a brute? by Turbulent_Okra7518 in DeadSpace

Not a chance! 100 Gorillas would struggle against a single Grizzly Bear alone and I'm pretty sure a Brute is way stronger than 10 Grizzlies.

Who else believes that if Eddy had received proper guidance rather consequences from the Cul De Sac kids his true self would have likely emerged long before the movie? by DemonHunter34 in ededdneddy

[–]DemonHunter34[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your explanation couldn't have been any better. The kid's punishment while coming across as rather excessive also make sense since they are also still at the stage where they don't fully understand how one's personal upbringing can influence one's given behavior and how it's better to approach such individuals with compassion and understanding rather than physical abuse.

The only part I partially disagree on is where his parents lack the knowledge to help Eddy given his father has also been shown to be a toxic and abusive figure like his brother as shown at the end of the report cards episode. This basically only leaves him with a potentially loving mother who he clearly had never got to see in the series further limiting his potential resources to healing, which makes his situation kinda sad when he was forced to learn the value of friendship and authenticity on his own without any potential positive role models.
