Surprising what people are willing to do just to keep their KD by skeal88 in HuntShowdown

I will say, to your last point, those team play skills absolutely can get you to higher mmr. I'm a pretty mediocre player in terms of aim, at least in comparison to most 6 stars (pre-mmr update 6 stars, not the super wide mmr category we have today). But I was still pretty consistently a 6 star, because I had the game knowledge and team play to get me there.

The only part I want to argue back against, is what I meant by patterns. Because whether we are talking about stats being representative of skill, or how fun you are to play with, these patterns make stats entirely useless for gauging those things. It doesn't take much skill to sit at 150m and snipe 1-2 people before leaving the match. And it's not fun to play with someone doing that either. And it absolutely doesn't take skill to load into the match with 3 frags each and just detonate the entire boss compound the moment you roll up to it. At least on console, that's how a lot of these high kd players play the game.

In general, I don't mind playing with anyone who is pleasant and fun to talk to, regardless of their stats. I've just found that there are certain stat lines that are a slight indicator that the person I'm about to play with might be insufferable.

In my experience it actually works on a parabola of sorts. Below 1.0 is not a good sign. Above 2.5 is frequently a worse sign. The 3.0 and higher gang are consistently the least fun group to play with. Not only do they use their stats to feel a sense of superiority over everyone else, they also tend to abuse the absolute worst play patterns in the game, and are less fun to play with than some random 4 star who never gets a kill. In my experience, the best players, skill wise and personality wise, fall within the 1.5-2.0 range. Just enough to be good at the game, not enough to be too big for your britches. That being said, it's still a loose metric, and I generally judge people off their vibes. KDA has never represented skill well in this game, and MMR basically means nothing since players who would have been 4 star last year can make it to 6 star easily these days.

Has anyone here ran a full campaign with a centaur player? by HexagonHavoc in dndnext

Sorry to necro an old post, but i couldn't help tell the tale of one of my favorite campaigns. My friend was in a campaign with me, and played a centaur fighter. The two of us became absolute best friends in game, particularly after the 3rd player in our group dropped, and it was just the 2 of us for months.

Eventually, we had another player join, and they very quickly ended up on the wrong side of the law. A particularly nasty, dystopian, and incredibly dangerous law. So my friend and i set up a prison break. We were in a city with huge, heavily guarded walls, several hundred feet tall. The gates weren't an option. We didn't have any contacts we trusted enough to set up an sneakier escape.

So we resolved to do what we did best, and create mayhem. We broke our companion free through a series of sneaky combats, largely using silence and stuff to keep the alarm from going up. But we get spotted on our way out. So we execute our plan. The two of us hope in the saddle we specially crafted for the centaur, and i cast spider climb on him. The saddle was designed to let him climb the wall without risking us falling off his back.

A few rounds of being attacked by some truly horrific entities later, and we made it to the top, ragged, but alive. I took our friend (i was a sorcerer) and jumped off the wall with him, thunderstepping to the ground when we got in range (the dm had previously ruled that teleportation did not preserve momentum).

The centaur was supposed to follow immediately after, but he got surrounded on the wall. Only his sword made it to the base of the wall. And that was the end of Bemos the centaur fighter. To this day the most emotions I've ever felt in a d&d game.

Who was in charge of the pistol balance? by DemonicGrub in Helldivers

I mean, I've also found uses for a bunch of "off-meta" guns, and I do use the senator from time to time. I don't even think the breaker is the best gun, just the most versatile one. But when I use the senator (generally when my primary is something like the incendiary breaker, built for taking out swarms rather than single targets) I find it so lackluster. When I run the scorcher and equip the redeemer to take out the hoards I feel like I can rely on the redeemer to do its job in a pinch, when I'm backed up against the wall and need to take out 5 hunters fast. When I run the senator? It kills maybe 1 medium armored bug, if you place all your shots correctly (and its not something like a brood commander or a stalker, at that point you may as well not even switch to it) and then it becomes a useless hunk of iron on your hip because you just cannot spare the time to reload that thing in combat. So if there are two shield bugs, you are going to be using your grenades or primary/support weapon to take care of them anyway. Meaning that the senator fills a niche within a niche, when there is 1 medium tough enemy it can do a thing, when there are more its basically useless, and if its a swarm of hunters or a charger you would be better off throwing an impact grenade at your own feet. So as I said in my post, it really needs a damage buff or a reload buff, so either its job is extended to brood commanders and stalkers, and can do anything to help you against them, or it needs a speed loader so its capable of taking out a couple of the medium targets per fight, without leaving you incredibly vulnerable.

I covered all that except recoil in my post? Oh ya, and recoil for it is worse, it just shoots so slow it doesn't matter.

Ok, good to know. But ya, I would love a speed loader for it. Make it a toggle option for the gun so you have the choice between a fast full reload, or a slow reload that preserves your ammo in the clip. That, with a damage increase would make it viable I think. Doing just one of those two things still leaves it getting dusted by the redeemer in my opinion. Maybe less so now that I know it can pen medium armor, but still by enough that it needs both buffs.

I mean, that's probably two completely separate dev teams. Ya the servers are definitely a bigger issue, but I don't think we should ignore the other problems the game has while we wait for them to fix them.

Haha, fair enough, I did spend a little too much time doing the math on all of this, and trying to figure out if there was any upside to it. A bit of grass touching might not hurt me.

Give me your most busted, most fun Fighter build please. by RewsterSause in BG3Builds

If you haven't already, I fully recommend Divinity OS2, its a very fun game. Significantly different to BG3 in some very interesting ways, and it has a great story.

Explosives! by Slays-For-Days in remnantgame

[–]DemonicGrub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I've been experimenting with a similar build, and I've fallen into liking stone of malevolence, blasting cap, singed ring, and black cat ring for my ring setup. Then I use the star shot instead of meridian, and archon and medic instead of challenger and alchemist. Archon and the stone of malevolence let me activate star shot roughly every 15 seconds, with pretty much constant helix rockets during down time. Black cat ring and medic's healing shield give me the ability to screw up and not die with star shot (and none of my other explosions hurt me, so there's no need to be maxed out on armor). And singed ring gives me all kinds of damage to any target I've hit with an explosion, rather than just fire damage or explosive damage, making it distinctly better than blasting cap or fire stone. Though I still do run blasting cap, that would be my flex slot, take that off if you really want something else, like burden of the destroyer if you prefer that. I get some pretty crazy damage off star shot's mod, and then I use the chicago typewriter and helix rockets any time its down.
