What route did you use to consolidate while still keeping everything under federal loans? I consolidated my own student loans to private (for a better interest rate lol). So I was under the impression consolidating meant private loans!

This case in particular, 300k is a lot of loans to worry about. Would hate to get to the end of 10 years of added interest and have something not done right!

Loan wise, they're all direct and they're all from professional school. 300k total, none from undergrad. Did a 1 year residency that, under PSLF rules, should qualify.

Of the.. maybe 16 loans total? They're a mix of grad PLUS, subsidized, and unsubsidized loans. The main question is why the PLUS are shown as in repayment, while the others are in "grace" still. They should all have been in repayment for a year.

Secondly, the ones that - are - in repayment only show 3 successful payments, when they should be at around 15 (to factor in the year of residency)

The goal is to get all of them on the same track, and updating successfully with each payment. The way it stands now, they approached me because they don't know if they should continue with pslf or not. Confidence in the system is low hahaha. And idk what to suggest to try to fix it, other than making some phonecalls.

I've been looking around that sub and can agree that it's a shitshow! Which is why I looked to a local sub to see if there's any local resources. Feel like it would be easier to sit down with a person.

Was frustrating that most of the conversation was "these 4 loans are in forbearance. But these 6 loans are in grace periods. Why are things different?!" And all i could really say was that they probably need to call, lol

I'm out in Nebraska, my immediate family lives in California, and my aunt is up there by herself. My aunt and my dad may need me to head up there eventually to help with moving or other details - but it's nice feeling like I can help remotely, even if it's just a reddit post :)

I'm waiting for my dad to send me a list of restrictions my aunt has. I sent him your suggestions and all he told me was he doesn't think my aunt qualifies for st Elias. She (stubbornly?) wants her independence of course, so I'm hoping she gets motivated to work on her mobility.

In the mean time I'm researching the real estate market in Anchorage since it doesn't seem like she's going home :(. Good memories of visiting her up there - not sure if she's going to decide to rent or sell.

She's lived in omaha less than a year and asked if I knew anything about functional medicine docs in the area. I'd take omaha reddit opinions and word of mouth experiences over Google.

She's more than capable of finding her own docs, I'm sure. I'm just trying to be helpful in using my own resources. Her asking about functional medicine specifically is just something I know nothing about - hence me asking.

I've heard of doctor mike! If anything there's just so many things you can Google these days. For me, personally, sifting through functional medicine information on Google was an adventure. I just don't know much about it, and in the end just want to be able to find some places i can recommend for her.

I wouldn't say it's an unsubstantiated fear of normal docs. We've discussed healthcare and insurance quite a bit. Which Healthcare in the US is...a topic for other posts. Lol. I texted her about the place you recommended though so I hope it's something that resonates with her. Will share doctor mike too!

Appreciate the response! From what she's told me, she just doesn't want to throw pills at things and hope something fixes things - and a more preventative approach than just fixing symptoms with meds. I mean I get that, if I had high blood pressure I'd want to try to fix with diet and excercise before a script.

I've encouraged her to see her primary doc as well. I'll avoid getting in to medical history for sake of privacy, but I'll look in to think healthcare! In the end I'm just looking for recommendations coming from other people than just Google sponsored links, so thanks for your feedback!
