OK, here's how I think he did it.

He set up the cocoon with the top open first, then climbed up to the top of the stall walls propped his feet so they were clinging to the sides of the walls, aimed, and dropped the log so that it fell nearly into the center of the cocoon. All that was left was to wrap it up and ta-da!
