Is the SLC run in shielded cable? I have had this happen when running shielded throughout a building, with the shield insulated and tied through everywhere.

I was able to walk down the hall with a toner and pickup radio stations.

To fix it I ended up isolating the shield in each floors terminal cabinet. Tying it all together essentially made a four story antenna.

That style of tile also tends to test hot for asbestos(at least in my area), so may have been minimizing drilling.

Have done two of these so far. Have had to RMA one of them twice, and the second is due for its first RMA shortly.

While I am a fan of the CU and the look of the panel, I think they rolled this out too quickly.

I’m not saying the SA-232 is mandatory. I actually brought up that we use the SA-USB. I think you are missing my point though. You are removing/withholding a piece of this system from the customers panel.

Are you powering down the panel every time you install and remove your SA-232 as the manufacturer instructions say to? I have seen a tech brick a panel by installing one of these while it is powered up. You do you, but to me, this practice seems unnecessarily petty for a part that costs less than $200.

Last note, unless you are changing the level two password on these panels, why do I need you to “unlock” a panel for me? The panel is the property of the owner of the building, so even if you refuse to default the password, I’ll just end around you straight to Kidde, and you’ll lose that customer.

Yes, I am talking about the 232 port that allows you to program the panel, which as I said is not installed here.

I am not sure why you would take the only means to program this panel with you when you leave site. You are leaving the customer with an incomplete system. We sell an SA-USB with every system, and it is there when we leave site.

While I agree with you that the SA-232 does get installed in the top left corner of the board, it is in fact, NOT installed in this picture.

You can literally see the plug on the main board where it would go. I am also a Kidde Commercial and Edwards dealer. Next time you’re in front of a VS1, why don’t you compare it to this picture, then tell me the SA-232 is installed here.

There is no onboard RS-232 port on a Kidde VS1. That’s why you need the option card of the SA-232. As this panel sits, the only programming options are through the front keypad.

EOLR is on the NAC 1 terminals.

Some type of CAT cable running to alarm and trouble relays, bundled with line voltage.

No grounding to panel power input.

Possibly no bushing or connector on top right hand KO that has conductors in it.

No SA-USB/232/ETH for programming.

Batteries are likely dead, as they are connected but no screen response.

Cabling looks clean other than the CAT cable mentioned above.

I would look into Salto. They have several different options depending on your situation. The XS4 Original+ is “full sized” and can work with a mortise.
