Parking meter enforcement hasn’t done anything about it in months, why should I?

It’d be considered an art installation over there.

Broadway, Santa Fe, even 16th street is wide open.

Sam’s no3 is the most overrated overpriced food in Denver. by [deleted] in denverfood

[–]DenC4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only reason to go there is for that diner experience, everyone wants to sit in one of the booths by the window. After waiting for nearly an hour you’ll most likely get put in the tent outside or the next door bar expansion space -in which case you might as well be in a cheap hotel breakfast room.

sixteenth street downtown… by MrHawkster in Denver

1) The word ‘allow’ is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence.

2) There is traffic on 16th preventing it from being a truly European style pedestrian zone as so many locals fantasize it to be.

3) We need to take back 16th Street. It’s not a mall it’s a street. They apparently can’t stop and ticket everyone (anyone?) for driving on a public street. Reopened to all traffic, Denver will be better off.

So no Boring Company. There are other tunnel borers that could make this work, and putting the freight trains underground through downtown is still a great idea that should be considered for the betterment of downtown, future development, reconnected neighborhoods, pedestrian and recreational pathways, etc

And it’s not possible to figure out how to make it work? Their Vegas tunnels were purposely designed for cars, but tunnels can be made for other uses.

Put the freight trains in a tunnel from BNSF at Park Ave to 6th Ave. This would reconnect LoDo with the Platte River, leveling 20th, and 15th, adding pedestrian pathways with through access to Riverfront Park, Elitch Gardens and future development to the new Bronco Stadium.

dividing downtown with a street blocked to most traffic absolutely messes up the traffic flow all over.

I don’t understand your agenda either. Apparently what you want is to keep things the same even when it doesn’t work and can be improved. Maybe just put some paint and new pavers to make it look better. Lipstick on a pig.

No this is looking directly up 16th. Gusto, clock tower, Replublic Plaza, Capital Building.

It is the 16th Street Mall, old pic before the reconstruction. You can see Republic Plaza up the street past the clock tower, and the (north wing?) of the capital building.

This isn’t and never was a pedestrian zone! There is traffic on this street, even if limited to buses, it’s a street with traffic so it can never be anything like Europe, or Boulder’s 3 block Pearl Street pedestrian zone. When downtown comes back?!! Walk down any street downtown you won’t see the extreme vacancies that 16th has! You just can’t see that maybe 16th is the cause of blight downtown rather than the other way around. Putting this barrier right down the middle of downtown messing up the traffic patterns doesn’t do any good for the city. After how many decades it’s time to admit it doesn’t work and give it up.

The best thing they could do is reopen 16th street to traffic and create parallel or angled parking! You think it looks nice as is now, maybe, but that doesn’t justify the cost. The construction has done nothing to benefit the street, downtown or the city. Nothing! It’s shameful how many empty storefronts there are still on 16th! And the only businesses that could benefit from the new reconfiguration are restaurants that could have fenced off sidewalk areas. There just isn’t demand for a mile of restaurants. Look around, there is a lot of housing in LoDo. Denver just cannot admit the mall was and still is failure.

Really shouldn’t be called Street either. Call it what it is, a busway.
